On Sunday, March 27, 2022, I made my first trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in a long time. See what you students do to me: You make me so busy, I can't enjoy the cultural things around Brooklyn and NYC. I have been a member of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden (BBG) for a long time, and really enjoyed returning. (Source: Jeff Utz)
Bonsai plants are really cool. One really neat thing about the BBG is that they are famous for their Bonsai plants. They are miniature plants in a small pot or pile of dirt. The BBG has one of the largest collections of Bonsai plants, with around 30 on display at any one time. The BBG has around 400 Bonsai plants, total. (Source BBG.)
Spring is here at the garden. One of the things I love doing at the BBG is seeing the changes throughout the year. The garden is particularly pretty after it snows, except they sometimes close the BBG or close off large areas so people don't fall and hurt themselves. Today, I saw that many plants are just starting to bud - new leaves are just starting to grow. I look forward to seeing the different plants as they change throughout the year.
After my lovely visit to the BBG, I took the B41 bus to a German restaurant, DSK. I love their corn chowder. They have a great winter dish, noodles with meat stew (spatzel with Goulash is the traditional name), but they stopped making it until fall. So I had schnitzel which is a thin, breaded chicken (like chicken parm without the sauce, but thinner). My mother and dad used to make something similar out of veal. Of course, I had sauerkraut, which is pickled cabbage, like Korean Kimchi). But, I had a traditional drink to go with it. (Source: Jeff Utz)
