Term 3A Week 1

It was lovely to welcome everyone back to school after a lovely Easter holiday. Year 2 settled straight back into their routine and showed growing maturity as they went about their work. After enjoying watching the playful otters at Washington Wetlands so much before the holidays, we decided to write a non-chronological report about them. The photograph above shows the children working independently and in a super focused way on their writing towards the end of the week.

In music, the children worked on their composing skills by creating patterns using an app. Mrs Butler encouraged the children to really critique their pieces by really listening to how it sounded. The children really enjoyed this activity.

The school nurse came into school to talk to us about acceptable and appropriate behaviour. It is important the children have their awareness raised in the name of safety.

In our P.E. With Mr Breheny, we are working on striking and fielding skills in one of our lessons and tennis skills in the other. Here the children are practising their tennis skills.

Our Maths work this week has been on position and direction. We have learned and practised positional language and applied it by giving instructions. We still need to work a little on remember which is left and which is right. Then we worked on quarter, half and full turns, which were either clockwise or anti-clockwise. The children enjoyed completing this activity.

Louie found himself in Golden Book after creating this masterpiece of the Angel of the North at home with his sister. What a brilliant way to spend your time at home, working creatively and collaboratively with your family.

Finally, in science we are learning about plants. The children planted some sunflower seeds. We are going to conduct an experiment to see what happens when we place a seed in a dark cupboard and when we do not water another.

A fairly busy first week back!
