How to Download and Open an iBook on an iPad or Mac By Matt Spence

The first step is to make sure that you have the most recent version of Books for your iPad or Mac. Although both of these have been preinstalled on both devices for years, it's possible that older devices running older operating systems might not have the app.

For iPad Users

  • Step One: Open the shared iBook file in Google Drive (A shared link won't work. Ooops.)
  • Step 2: When you open Drive, you will see something like this:
Don't tap the actual file.
  • Rather than tap the file title to open it, tap the three dots to the right of it. You will be given a menu of options:
Tap this.
  • Step 3: Tap on Open In. Your iPad will start to download the file.
  • Step 4: You will then see a menu of apps you can use to open the iBook file. Choose Open in Books.
Choose Open in Books.
  • That's it. It should open in Books on your iPad.

For Mac Users

  • Step 1: Go to your Google Drive and find the shared iBook file. Double-click to open it. You will see a window showing folders and files. Ignore these and click on the download icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
Just click the download icon.
  • Step 2: The download will start, but it might seem like nothing is happening at first. Be patient. In a minute or so, you should see the file in your Downloads folder. Just double-click the file, and it should open in Books automatically.

That's it. Let me know if you have any problems or have any thoughts about how to make this explanatory guide more effective.
