Join Chief Shaka Zulu of the Goldenfeather Hunters Tribe in a deep roots experience of Black Masking Indian Culture and the art of beadwork.
Hosted by The Antidote Juice and The Next Sober Life at Spyre Center, we welcome Chief Shaka Zulu, who will be teaching the sacred art of beading.
Every year, the New Orleans Black Masking Indians spend months hand-beading their suits for the Carnival Season. This annual display of intricate beadwork is an essential element of New Orleans Culture. While we are visitors in this historic city, the culture of New Orleans existed long before us, and the melding of Native American and Afro-Caribbean culture is the actual heartbeat of the city. There would be no Mardi Gras without this community.
At this event, you will learn the art of beading and you will get to practice on your own, finally taking home a piece of beaded art that you made yourself. This is a unique opportunity to learn about New Orleans culture and make a last minute Christmas gift.
The Antidote Juice will be providing refreshments and your ticket includes one cold-pressed juice. Chief Shaka and friends will provide the materials, the knowledge, and some musical accompaniment during the event. All you need to bring is yourself.
