I went to Lake Tahoe 4 years back during Thanksgiving time, it was a day trip where we drove from SF to North Lake Tahoe. Come to think of it, We've pretty much stayed there for like 5 hrs. took some pictures did some sledding and that was my first experience here.
When we decided to head here for long weekend in Feb on President's day, I wanted to make sure I cover pretty much everything. I know 3 days isn't enough to cover this beautiful place but then at-least I can give a shot to knock down the most prominent places. So I've started researching and came up with the list of places to see. Even though I couldn't cover all the places/trails that I've planned but whatever I could see was well worth the time and the effort.
The first place we've seen is 'Fallen Leaf Lake' followed by 'Glen Alpine Falls', which is about one mile south west of Lake Tahoe.
The views near Fallen Lake are absolutely beautiful but couldn't get closer to the waters or get on to the docks as most are private properties with 'No Trespassing' signboards everywhere. However, there is a public access area as well on the other side of the lake where we took the pictures.
Our next stop was 'Glen Alpine Falls' which is a 20 min walk from the lake. Due to the season the path towards falls is covered in knee deep snow with stunning scenery all-around. I recommend wearing snow-boots, gloves and layered clothing if you're not comfortable with cold weather like me.
I can imagine how buzzing this place might be in summer but on this day we were the only people around here. So enjoyed every moment of tranquility, exploring the surroundings and of course taking pictures.

Shout-out to my buddy Koushik for this shot!
Eagle falls trail is a fairly moderate trail which will take around 20 mins walk across steep terrain to reach the upper falls. We had tough time reaching the upper bridge due to the slippery snow along the pathway but the views were well worth it. If you want to go beyond this point into wilderness to reach the 'Eagle Lake' one would need permission and the terrain is steep and not maintained.
Both upper/lower eagle falls offer unique views and absolutely worth visiting. I tried long exposure shots but however due to the light couldn't get decent shots except for one.
Our next stop was 'Cave Rock' which is a huge rock overlooking the Tahoe lake. The views are spectacular from here thanks to trail on top of the rock head where you get see amazing panoramic views of lake, surrounding mountains and forest.
If you're not in a mood to hike all the way up to the top of cave rock, don't worry the views from down here are just as spectacular as you see from top of the rock. We've spent good amount of time taking pictures and enjoying views.
I was very excited to see Sand Harbor more than anything as the pictures seem surreal and it surely didn't disappoint. By the time we've reached here it's almost past 3 and the sun was playing hide and seek with clouds. It turned out to be blessing in disguise as the pictures came out really interesting.
Of all the places we've been to in this trip, this was most crowded place by far. We're lucky to get parking spot without much waiting, as we've seen folks waiting for fairly long periods for spots. There is a $10 fee per car which is decent given bunch of activities one can do here. We've spent good 2 hrs. here before heading out to do a complete loop of the lake.
Last but not the least we've visited Lake View Commons beach before heading back home.
We had big plans to cover all the places, however in reality after visiting each place we've ended up spending a lot more time than we actually planned for. Even though I'm left disappointed but it surely gives an opportunity for us to come back to this wonderful place.
No amount of pictures can give you a sense of how beautiful this place is, you gotta be out here in person to feel and see it.
If you enjoyed photographs and reading this, do come back as I usually upload new content in my website every 2-3 weeks. Until then CHAO!
