The Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center Vol. 8: Indoor Competition Center

The Indoor Competition Center houses stadium seating for spectators at tennis matches and track and field meets. The track was named by an anonymous donor in honor of the family's commitment to athletics, health and recreation.

The Meet Management Room overlooks the field house and provides a functional space for officials during events. On non-meet days, you can find students studying and coaches holding meetings here.

Aidan's Climbing and Bouldering Wall is made possible by the generosity of Nicholas Silitch '83 and Regina Silitch, in memory of their son, who developed quickly into an exceptional climber due to the passion and discipline he devoted to the sport at a young age. The climbing wall adds another dimension to the multi-functional space of the Indoor Competition Center, as Colby Recreation climbing nights have proven to be a hit among the students. It is 26'-8" wide and 42'-0" high and includes 12 climbing lanes, a cantilever and slope for lead climbing.

Retractable batting cages, as well as indoor and outdoor lacrosse walls, including the Flahive Five Wall, extend the Center's functionality beyond tennis and the indoor track. Field sports programs also benefit from its use, particularly during inclement pre-season training.

"The Indoor Competition Center will allow us to host a series of competitions during the indoor season while having the opportunity to compete in front of the Colby community."

Dave Cusano, Head Track and Field Coach

“The Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center and Indoor Competition Center tennis facility will help us tremendously in providing the best student-athlete experience and helping our players develop. It is awesome to have four indoor courts for us to utilize year round and the lighting and netting system are great. We feel very fortunate to have access to such great facilities.”
