Cushla's Blessing for her family Kinkwall, 4th December 2016

As you know, I made a Glad List and on it were all the things I was grateful for.

The top thing was how lucky I have been to always have been loved by David for over 50 years.

Because of that love, the second thing was that we had children who loved me as well.

Mum's full glad list

E hara taku toa i te toa

takitahi engari he toa takimano

My strength is not that of an individual,

but that of the collective

Roxy's proverb -

My interpretation is that; I am an individual, but I am stronger because I am surrounded by family.

There is a mystery of "not being". But all that "be", must also "not be".

But, I know where I will be...in the hearts and minds of all of you.

"What will survive of us is love"

or...

as the Beatles said, "All you need is Love".

Warning - it is easy to love those we like and are close to...but it is much harder to love and practice love towards those who we are not!

Blessings...

Blessings be upon you,

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

may his light shine upon your pathway

all the days of your life.

Kia kaha.

Hold fast to that which is good.

Peace be with you.

Here are two mottos from our two families.

Firstly, the Bretton motto:

Forward in Faith

composed by David's mother, so we could also say; Forward in Hope.

Second from a little sampler print in my room when I was a child...

"Start the day with laughter gay, and make the world laugh with you.

If joy you'd own, then make your own, the world will then laugh with you."

From this new home of ours, Shetland...

"Great is the truth and it will prevail" - Shetland Times

The motto of the land - "By law shall the land be built."
