HCPS Newsletter FEBRUARY 2022

It has been absolutely inspiring to see all our pupils immersed within their learning since September, we have built Mars Curiosity Rovers & fairgrounds in D&T, created Top Trumps in History, developed video games in Computing, become Geographical Vloggers from Svalbard, hosted a TED talk about the Romans, and much, much more! Our school has been alive with the buzz of learning and I cannot wait to see where this year takes us.

This term we have begun developing our indoor and outdoor spaces starting with our brand new KS2 Library and the introduction of our sports leaders who have been providing their peers with activities to participate in during breaktimes. we’ll also soon be beginning our ‘Pod’ project too – keep an eye on Twitter for updates. We’re excited to host our second face to face parents evening of the year on the 14th and 15th of February, our pupils have made fantastic progress and we’re excited to share this with you. I am looking forward to the rest of this term as we’re hoping to have more opportunities for parents to attend school events and see the fabulous learning which is taking place.

Y6 Climbing Competition

We have been invited to attend inter-schools climbing competition in Sheffield on Monday 7th February. We have chosen 8 Year 6 children to represent HCPS, these children really stood out and impressed the Y6 staff whilst on their residential at Thornbridge! The top 10 primary and secondary schools will be invited to the final! Fingers Crossed!!

HCPS Football Team Training

Every Thursday Mrs Berry's football team meet up after school to have a football training session. So far it has been a wonderful opportunity for the boys to train together to prepare themselves for future competitions and the sports partnership football league. We are keeping everything crossed we can get back to participating in these games after February half term.

Y6 Boosters

Our Y6 children are staying at school from 3.15pm to attend Booster sessions on a Monday and a Tuesday, the sessions run until 4:15pm and children need collecting from their classrooms. Booster groups are a good way for your child to gain the skills and knowledge that they will need for their SATS. The sessions will run until May time, but we will communicate this information with parents closer to the time.

Young Voices

We have now received a revised date to finally take our amazing choir to Sheffield Arena to participate in the Young Voices performance. This will be happening on Thursday 28th March 2022! As I am sure you will all agree it has been a long time in the making but no doubt it will be a tremendous success! We are looking forward to seeing lots of parents at this event! If you require anymore information of the Young Voices event, please speak with Mrs Berry or Mrs Brusby.

Y1 and Y5 Bikeability

Y1 and Y5 had lots of fun during Bikeability last week. Our Y1 pupils got to test their ability to balance, move the bike and how to stop safely. In Y5, they looked at riding safely on the road, signalling and general knowledge on cycling.

Barnsley Boys Tie Presentation

We have had a very important visitor at HCPS recently! Steven Gates from Barnsley Boys came in to present 3 of our footballers with the Barnsley Boys Tie. This tie is a great achievement and is something that the boys should be incredibly proud of.

Playtimes at HCPS

We are lucky to have the most amazing Year 6 playleaders who have been running a range of activities for all the children across school at playtimes and lunchtimes. The activities range from skipping, netball, colouring and games! It has been an enormous success and we hope to be able to add more exciting activities in the future also!

KS2 Library

KS2 Library

Welcome to our KS2 Library! One of our priorities this year has been to develop our learning environments, this began with the creation of our brand new KS2 library. Here you can find a range of fiction and non-fiction texts for children from Y3 up to Y6, we’ve worked hard to label these and make our library as easy to use as possible. We’ve bought some fantastic new books too such as; biographies of inspirational people throughout history, the full Alex Rider series, immersive Atlases, twisted tales and much more! If that wasn’t good enough, we’ve also designed posters with recommended reads for each year group to help you choose the right book for you. So come along, find a book, get settled on a beanbag and enjoy yourself. Key Stage One, don’t worry, you haven’t missed out – we’ll be working on improving your library soon too!

Y3 Music Performance

On Thursday 10th February Y3 will be showcasing their cello and violin skills by putting on a performance in the school hall. Unfortunately parents will not be allowed to attend this event. Y3 will be performing to the whole school and will show their new skills and knowledge on their instruments. Our Y3 pupils are loving their music lessons and have already had fun at the Bollywood Brass Performance.

There will be more information to follow on the Music Performance, so keep your eye out for that.
