New Research Webinar Available

A new Research Seminar Series webinar is now available on-demand. The seminar “Off the Rails” is led by researchers at the University of West Florida Administration and Law Department, which encompasses legal studies, construction management, sport management, and public administration. In the webinar, presenters address issues related to fan injuries and deaths associated with falling over a railing or falling as a result of a malfunctioning railing. The discussion examines whether the line of site exception of 26 inches is safe, analyzes load force concerns associated with fans leaning against the railing, and offers solutions to concerns regarding railing. NCS⁴ Publishes Patron Screening Guide

The NCS⁴ is proud to release the Venue Managers Guide for Evaluating Patron Screening Solutions. The guide aims to assist venue managers and operators in better understanding patron screening solutions and the operational considerations for deploying patron-screening technology. Incorporated checklists provide a roadmap for reviewing solution documentation, technical specifications, operator needs, capabilities, and detection and operational considerations.

The NCS⁴ invites you to attend the 13th Annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference & Exhibition on June 28-30 at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate in Orlando. The conference is presented in conjunction with Title Sponsor inOrbit. The 2022 conference theme is Game-Changers: Lead, Discover, Innovate.

The conference will offer dynamic programming, solution provider engagement, and opportunities to network with fellow game-changers in our industry. Experienced professionals will share ideas, tools, and proven strategies to help you stay informed of industry advancements.

General sessions cover broad topics with panel discussions relevant to sports safety and security professionals in today’s ever-changing landscape, while breakout sessions allow participants to engage with panelists and attendees on key issues.

Pete Dalton, international Protective Security Consultant and former U.K. Specialist Police Commander, will inform attendees on “A Case Study Review of the Major Perimeter Security Breach and Crowd Management Challenges at the European Cup Final – Wembley Stadium – July 2021.“ Dalton is an accredited Specialist (Counter-Terrorism) Tactical Firearms Commander, involved in the management, command, and deployment of major international events and complex counter-terrorism operations. The EURO 2020 Tournament endured several challenges at the Wembley Stadium, exacerbated by COVID-19 and other crowd factors that contributed to the events. This presentation will examine the timeline of events and the response from police and security. There will also be a discussion on the summary of the Independent Review findings and the considerations of the key impact on other U.S. and international events.

The rate to attend is $600 for NCS⁴ Connect members and $650 for non-members. Companies who provide products/services to the industry may register for $800 as a Private Sector Attendee.

Now Scheduling Select DHS/FEMA-Funded Training Courses

The NCS⁴ is currently offering four safety and security courses in face-to-face format. Each course is designed to be interactive and allow individuals to become more confident in their ability to identify, prevent, and manage incidents. The key principles that individuals will learn range from risk management, evacuation messaging, threat prioritization, and communication. Each class is being presented in a face-to-face format that requires 8 hours each day for two consecutive days.

Fundamentals of Crowd Safety Course Offered Online

NCS⁴ and GKStill International have partnered to jointly offer the Fundamentals of Crowd Safety online E-Learning course to address capability gaps in crowd behavior and sciences. Professor Dr. G. K. Still, Professor of Crowd Science at Manchester University, developed this certified, accredited course. The course offers an 8-hour online interactive experience designed to teach the essential elements of crowd safety and crowd risk analysis. The course is especially valuable to event organizers, as it ensures that those who complete it are compliant with the NFPA 101 - Life Safety Code — specifically, the areas of section 12 of the code that require a venue to provide a crowd manager trained in crowd management techniques for occupancies exceeding 1000.

Quick-thinking NBA security guard goes viral

A quick-thinking security guard has gone viral and received plenty of love on social media for taking down a protester during an NBA playoffs game on Sunday (AEST). The New York Post reports an animal rights protester wearing an NBA referee jersey stormed the court during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ clash against the Memphis Grizzlies at Minnesota’s Target Centre — the third protester removed from the court in 10 days. At least three people were injured Sunday when gunfire erupted near a middle school athletic field in Virginia, marking the third time in seven days that a shooting has occurred near youth sports facilities across the country. Read more

Yankees Increase Security at Yankee Stadium After Incident With Guardians

The Yankees are taking precautionary measures on Sunday afternoon to prevent another incident with fans and members of the Guardians at Yankee Stadium. After a slew of fans threw beer cans and other objects onto the field, toward Cleveland's outfielders as Saturday's game came to an end, the Yankees will have extra security at the ballpark on Sunday, a team spokesman revealed. Stampede of festival goers rush VIP section during Playboi Carti performance

A stampede of festival goers tried to rush the VIP section during Playboi Carti’s performance at the Smokers Club Fest in San Bernardino, Calif., on Saturday. Video footage on Twitter shows security guards rushing to what appears to be an entrance blocked off by control barriers when all hell breaks loose. Read more

A Garth Brooks show was so loud it registered as an earthquake

The earth was literally shaken as Brooks and an audience of over 102,000 sang in unison about “send[ing] my love down to Baton Rouge.” The small earthquake was captured by LSU’s seismograph — marking the second time in over three decades that Tiger Stadium registered a tremor from cheering fans. The first, WBRZ reported, was when LSU narrowly defeated Auburn University with two minutes left in a 1988 football game. Read more
