The Great South Indian temples Some dazzling places to visit

The South Indian temples are massive and known for its beautifully crafted vimanas, called kopurams in local Tamil language. These kopurams are huge towers at entrances. There are hundreds of huge beautiful temples across south India.

1. The Meenakshi Amman temple, Madurai

The Meenakshi Amman temple. Most famous for its richly coloured towers with hundreds of sculptures crafted in a single tower.

Meenakshi Amman temple is located in city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu. The city is more than 2500 year old as the temple at the centre of the city and the temple is famous since the ancient times. The temple was renewed between 14th and 17th century

2. The Brahadeeshwara temple or simply the big temple at the heart of Tanjore city of tamil nadu is the worlds largest built granite structure ever and having the highest pointing peak at the centre of the structure ,was the tallest at the time when it was built.

3. Shree Ranganatha swamy temple, Srirangam

This temple is a huge complex consisting of huge towers and massive walls ,standing as one of the worlds largest religious structure and having the largest inner scantum among all Hindu temples in the world.

The second largest temple complex of world after Angkor vat and the only largest temple complex in the world thats still active since the ancient times.

4. The Chidambaram Nataraja swamy temple , Chidambaram

The temple depicting Lord Shiva as the King of dance as 'Nataraja' in a dancing posture in the Kanaka Sabha ,which is the golden roofed scantum at the heart of the temple. This temple is depicted in ancient poetries and notations that are 3000 years old.

The temple stands at the geographical centre of the earth. The most interesting thing is that the exact centre lies under the feet of the dancing Lord shiva as Nataraja where he is posing the comic dance posture.

These are some of the most famous South Indian , Tamil Nadu temple destinations that one should never miss experiencing it.
