Amaterasu Omikami, Goddess of the Sun
By far the most notable kami, Amaterasu Omikami is the kami of the sun. She is the most important kami. Comparable to Ra from Egyption mythology
Hachiman, God of War and Archery
The god of war and archery, he is also the divine protector of Japan, the Japanese people, the Imperial House, and the Minamoto clan. To samurai, he is the most important god. His name means "God of eight banners", and his symbolic animal is the dove. Comparable with Ares from Greek Mythology.
Inari Okami, God of Agriculture and Rice
Inari Okami is the god of foxes, fertility, rice, tea and sake, agriculture and industry. He/She/It does not have a gender, and is revered as the patron of blacksmiths and the protector of warriors. Over 1/3 of Shinto shrines are dedicated to Inari Okami. Inari's messengers are it's foxes, which are pure white. Inari Okami can be compared with Demeter from Greek Mythology.

The first men and women, they are the kami of both creation and death.
The Kotoamatsukami, the first kami
The Kotoamatsukami are the first gods ever to be created. They are Amenominakanushi, or the central master, Takamimusubi, or the High Creator, and Kamimusubi, or the divine creator.
Omoikane, Deity of Wisdom
The deity of wisdom, his name means "serving one's thoughts". He is also known as "to combine" or "to possess simultaneously". Unlike the Roman and Greek gods, the Shinto deity of wisdom is male.
Sarutahiko Okami, God of the Earth
His name means "Greatly virtuous god". He is seen as the symbol of Misogi, or strength and guidance. He is depicted as a towering man with a large beard, jeweled spear, ruddy face, and long nose. Comparable to Hades or Pluto.
Susanoo no mikoto, God of the Sea and Storms
The Shinto god of the sea and storms, he is considered the ruler of the clan Neno-Katasu-Kuni. He is comparable to Poseiden from Greek Mythology.
Tsukuyomi, the Moon God
The name comes from the Japanese word "Tsuku" which means moon, and the Japanese word "yomi". Unlike the moon goddesses from Roman and Greek Mythology, the Shinto moon god is male.
Ryujin, Dragon God
Ryujin is the Dragon god of sea and storms. He is similar to Susanoo no mikoto. He symbolized the power of the ocean, had a large mouth, and was able to transform into human shape. He had a palace called Ryugu-jo, which was made out of red and white coral, from which he controlled the tides with tide jewels. Sea turtles, Fish, and Jellyfish are his messengers.
