Principles of Bonsai Design delves deeply into principles that underlie bonsai as an art form and references where possible the growth habits of natural trees. This book is intended to first, stimulate readers to really study and draw inspiration from the trees around them; second, to approach art not by following rote instructions but to understand principles that underlie common practice and traditions and grant freedom to expand; and third, to understand some concepts behind display, so that the inspiration and effort of creation can be rewarded by sharing art with others in a comprehensible and meaningful way.
