Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for joining us for a new Warrior Strong update! We’re excited to share that the Transfer Student Success Center (TSSC) is expanding and recently welcomed Eve Crandall and Nicole Saez as transfer advisors. They bring their own unique transfer experiences to the TSSC, and you can read more about them in this issue. Students can schedule an appointment with either of them online.
Another exciting development is that the Transfer Credit Evaluation Team is merging with the TSSC. This expansion of services in the TSSC provides improved collaboration and synergy for the transfer pathways being developed. We also are reviewing and improving the transfer credit process and will share updates in the next issue of Warrior Strong.
For transfer students looking to get involved when they arrive at WSU, the new Transfer Student Club and Transfer Living Learning Community are great ways for students to become acclimated and start building a network of peers. I hope you will share these opportunities with your students.
Thank you for the support and guidance you provide to your students. As always, please connect with us regarding how we can best assist you. We look forward to working with you and hope to see your students on campus soon!
With Warrior pride,
Michael Quattro, Director of Educational Outreach and Transfer Initiatives, Wayne State University

Provost’s Office announces enhancements to support student success and engagement
The Office of the Provost announced several moves to streamline operations and improve student success. Enhancements include the creation of Warrior 360, a program that integrates and builds on the best practices from the APEX and Warrior VIP student support programs and provides more assistance to students — particularly first-generation students and students from historically marginalized groups. The new program will allow the university to marshal more resources, invest more strategically and better integrate Warrior 360 throughout campus.
WSU to host MiACADA 2022 conference May 20
"We all need somebody to lean on," and advisors are no exception. In order to meet students where they are and provide the holistic advising outcomes for which we strive, we need to call on our campus friends to share the load. This conference will highlight the collaborative nature of our advising practices by featuring the programs, initiatives and interventions we carry out in partnership with colleagues, faculty, administrators, students, and campus units.
Meet our new transfer advisors
NICOLE SAEZ

She began at Schoolcraft College before transferring to Wayne State in 2017 and becoming a Transfer Student Ambassador in the TSSC. Now she brings her experience to the TSSC as a full-time advisor.
EVE CRANDALL
Advisor Eve Crandall has a passion for supporting and encouraging students to pursue their interests, goals and dreams, even if they are not sure how everything will fit together. She draws from her own experiences as an undergrad as to how best help students.
Program highlight
IRVIN D. REID HONORS COLLEGE
The Irvin D. Reid Honors College has streamlined the transfer admission process and updated Honors programs to serve the interests and needs of a diverse student body.
Transfer students with at least 15 credits and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 are invited to the Honors College through the admission process. There’s no longer a separate Honors application. Students earlier in their academic career may select a tailored University Honors co-major to complement studies in all areas or enhance their major through a Departmental Honors path.
Recognizing that high-achieving students have many interests and goals, Honors recently decreased the total required Honors credits from 36 to 28 for the co-major. Credits are earned among the 120 required for most bachelor’s degrees. Further, the Field Learning feature now includes a choice of service-learning, research, internship/co-op/practicum or study abroad. Further, Honors program articulation agreements with Henry Ford College and Schoolcraft College now offer a related scholarship to qualifying students.
For transfer students further along in college careers or those who have completed MTA requirements, Wayne State offers a variety of Departmental Honors programs. Requirements vary, but each program includes at least 12 Honors credits, a special topics seminar and thesis project. Starting in Fall 2022, the university will offer Departmental Honors in Radiation Therapy Technology, Clinical Lab Science and Information Technology.

Adult learner community of support
Adult learners, or undergraduate students over the age of 25, are a critical part of our campus community, and we recognize that no two adult learners are the same. Some of our students have been away from Wayne State for 20 years, while others are embarking on their first experience after starting at a community college. Some students are mid-career professionals looking to advance in their fields, while others are considering a career change or entering the workforce for the first time. Whatever the story, we want to help.
Our adult learner programs and resources are growing, and we prioritize virtual lunch or evening events and services wherever possible.
As an adult learner, students have access to:
- A dedicated advisor, career coach, and financial aid officer
- Debt- and GPA-forgiveness through the Warrior Way Back and Phoenix Re-entry programs for returning WSU students
- Twice monthly adult-learner centered programming, such as connections with campus libraries, Disability Services, and more
- Weekly, informal social and networking opportunities with students and staff
- An adult learner student-led organization
- An adult learner newsletter
For additional details, connect with Amber Neher, advisor for Warrior Way Back, CLAS Phoenix, and Adult Learners, at aneher@wayne.edu or (313) 577-8908.

Tips for transfer students: Research is the most important thing to do. First: Make sure that the university meets your needs. Second: How much does it cost? Will financial aid assist? Third: Tour the campus and get acquainted with your advisor so that your stay is worthwhile and successful in all academics.
What attracted you to WSU?: I attended WSU in 1985 majoring in computer science and I worked at Chrysler Corp. as a computer analyst for 25 years. Later, in 2008, the market crashed; my job was transferred to India; and I retired from the company. I traveled a lot but got bored and wanted to (pursue) my dream job as a nurse. I attended Wayne County Community College and did all my prerequisites in nursing and was ready to transfer back to Wayne State University. The WSU adviser gave me some very vital information and led me to public health, (so) I spoke with an advisor in public health and that was history.
Post-graduation plans: Pursuing a master’s in public health and working in a mental institution. There is a great need in that profession.
