The tribe I am doing and that you are going to learn about is the Hopi Tribe. They are very interesting and I think you will be very glad you learned all about the Hopi Tribe.

The Hopi tribe lived in the American Southwest desert region In Northeastern Arizona. It was a very dry, arid, and rocky land that was covered in many many cacti. The Hopi was a very large group long ago in the 1600s. Although they were not the biggest tribe. They only had around 2,800 members in 1680. The Hop tribe was first created in 1350. As the years went on the Hopi grew. In 1990 the Hopi had around 7,360 members.

The Hopi lived in Adobe houses. Adobe houses were built for warm suitable climates. The main reason the Hopi built Adobe houses was because they usually lived in warm climates. One Adobe house could have up to 4 stories. The houses the Hopi lived in were made from clay and straw that were baked into bricks.

The Hopi tribe had many clothing. Most of their clothing was made from leather or fur of the animals they kill. The men wore clothes that include: breech cloths or short kilts that were made from long rectangular peices animal fur. Breech Claoths were worn between the legs and tucked under the belt. In the 1800s the men started wearing cotton tunics made from well cotton. They also started wearing moccasins on their feet. The moccasins were made from leather and at times fur. The Hopi women wore also many things. Some of the items they wore included knee length cotton dresses. Meaning they only went down to their knees. Those dresses were called Mantas. The Hopi women were also known to wear Navy Blue blankets over there shoulders.

The Hopi tribe ate many meats, berries, nuts, and vegetables. Some of the meat they ate included deer, small game, and turkeys. They also produced crops such as corn, beans, sunflower seeds, squash, and melons. They also had various nuts, berries and fruit.

There were many customs that made the Hopi tribe unique. One of them is that the Hopi were Animism. That means they believed that trees, grass or even any non living and living creature had spirits and souls. The Hopi would also make Kachina dolls. Kachina dolls were given to people because of loss or death. The Hopi also had many ceremonies. There most famous ceremonies was the Soyal Solistic Ceremony. The Soyal Solistic Ceremony began on the shortest day of the yaer and symbolized the second creation of the Dawn of Life.

The Hopi were very skilled hunters and builders. To hunt the Hopi used bows and arrows made from branches from cherry, ash, cedar, oak, or hickory trees. The string was made from harvested yucca or milkweed. They also used spears made from strong branches and stones as the spear head. They also used knives and rifles.

Most of the Hopi women made all the art and artwork. They were known for making baskets out of sewn together sticks. They also made clay pots and clothing such as blankets.

There were many famous Hopi Indian Cheifs but the three most famous were Cheif Dan.Cheif Tuba and Lewis Tewania. Lewis Tewania was famous for Winning a silver medal in the 1912 summer Olympics. Cheif Tuba was famous because he became a Morman. Chief Dan was famous because he was a famous and popular movie star in the 1800s.

There are many interesting things about the Hopi tribe. Here are a few. The Hopi speak Uto- Aztecan. There enemies were the Navajo and the Spanish. And finally the Hopi were skilled artisans in basket weaving and pottery. The Hopi Tribe RULESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
