Both Morningside (Iowa) and Benedictine (Kan.) had the chance to speak to four elementary schools in the Daytona Beach area to discuss what it is to be a student-athlete, how to compete with character, and the importance of academics. The Teaming-Up For Character® event allowed players to reach-out to the community and form a special bond.
Players from Morningside visited both Turie T. Small Elementary and Ortona Elementary while Benedictine football team members spent time with West Side Elementary and Palm Terrace Elementary
Both coaches and players addressed the children at all schools and not only told them their stories of success, but answered questions from the students.
Players like Morningside's Joel Katzer spoke about being a successful student and what that meant to his college career
Benedictine was greeted with excited students, eager to meet the team and hear what they had to say about playing football in college
After a big morning with the kids, both teams attended the Waste Pro Champions of Character Luncheon where not only were NAIA Champions of Character individual team recipients honored, but several local high school scholar-athletes were also recognized for their impressive efforts.
