“Alles Künstlerische ist Künftiges”

The quote “Alles Künstlerische ist Künftiges” / “All art is prospective" comes from product designer Karl Clauss Dietel and expresses what is often called the seismograph. The special sensitivity that is exercised through artistic creation.

When one is wondering where a certain social development might be heading, it is interesting to look at artists and their work. The interpretation of what a contemporary portrait of a woman should look like is in a constant state of flux. Panta rhei.

Like a little timestamp, this exhibition shows 14 works by artists - whose gender, in contrast to the motif - was not asked for.

"After 8 years of organising art shows at Kaffeemitte, I cancelled an exhibition for the first time because the artist portrayed women in a way that was feared to exceed the visitors' tolerance level. I wanted to let the arguments against the exhibition stand, especially as I could understand the reasons to a certain extent. Especially since Kaffeemitte is a special place for art, where apart from the possibility of reaching many different people, special consideration has to be given to young guests who are surprised by the art.

However, I asked myself what conclusion I can draw from this. Whether and how I can position myself.

This is how the Woman Portrait Gallery started. The idea to collect portraits of women and exhibit them in a series of group shows. From December 2022, the first 14 works will be on display at Kaffeemitte."
