Elizabeth I was an English monarch during the late 16th century who was the most successful monarch to ever ascend to the throne of England. The Catholic Mary ascended the throne with ease due to her high popularity, but after marrying Phillip II of Spain, was captured and died. Elizabeth I took the throne after her, and England went into a time of relative peace and prosperity
Elizabeth I Quote on Being King- "I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too; and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any prince of Europe, should dare to invade the borders of my realm"(Elizabeth I).
Elizabeth ascended to the throne and quickly returned England to Protestantism. Economic prosperity occurred under her reign. In 1586 Mary Queen of Scots who was a Catholic attempted to overthrow Elizabeth and was executed. After this event, Phillip II of Spain who was also Catholic was enraged by Sir Francis Drake(English sea captain and navigator) repetitively exploiting the Spanish galleons. The English Fleet managed to defeat the Spanish Armada. Elizabeth died in 1603(Levin).
