Headteacher's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I do hope that you had a pleasant Whit break with your families and are enjoying the summer sunshine?

The children have returned to school well this week and are settled back into their school routines. The final half term of the academic year is always an exciting one, with many looking forward to the range of exciting summer activities we have in school and others looking forward to the long summer break. There is always a hint of sadness at this point in the year also, as we are preparing to say ‘goodbye’ to some of our pupil leavers in late-June and to staff who will leave before the summer break. We are busy planning for these events to celebrate the contributions made by all, over many years, to the SJV community.

The highlight of this week was the whole school visit to the Blue Planet Aquarium in Chester, to celebrate World Oceans’ Day. I was really impressed with the mature and cooperative approach made by our pupils, who were excellent role models to the many other schools that attended yesterday. The trip was valuable in helping our children understand the role we all have in conservation; ensuring we look after the planet and the diverse habitats that co-exist with humanity. It was another positive way to reflect on Pope Francis’ Laudato Si message, which has been a key feature in school this year.

We are starting now to make plans for the final weeks of this academic year and are busy pupil report writing at present. We have started this week the compilation of the summer (annual) report. The reports take considerable time to write and collate and we aim to have them with you in the second week of July. The reports will identify the progress and achievements made in all subjects and in the wider areas of the curriculum by your child throughout their year at School.

We are also planning on a number of events for pupils to mark the end of this year in school. Perhaps the most important event for your diary is the Summer Fair at School on Saturday 1st July from 1pm-3pm. Please make every effort to join us with your families; it would be great to see you in school supporting us.

Can I remind you please that School closes for the summer break on Friday, July 21st at the earlier time of 1.30pm. We have informed transport teams already of this earlier finish. We will then reopen to pupils on Tuesday, 5th September at 9.00am. Monday 4th September is an INSET day for staff.

Best wishes for the week ahead.

Mr A Moloney, Headteacher

SJV Class News

Class 1

Class 1 have had a very busy week back; it was great to enjoy some water play outside. They even tried making their own hot air balloons, then had a relaxing time at the sensory room.

Class 2

Class 2 had a great day at Blue Planet Aquarium this week, we saw lots of sharks and sting rays, we particularly enjoyed the play park and exploring sea creatures' teeth! We were even lucky enough to spot some divers from the tunnel.

Class 3

The class 3 boys have had a great first week back from their half term break. They've hit the ground running with their Maths and Science work. They also enjoyed the school visit to Blue Planet Aquarium on world ocean day, learning about the different habitats in the sea and which animals live in them.

Class 4

Class 4 have had a very busy week this week with two offsite visits! We've visited Cronkshaw Farm, and the Blue Planet Aquarium. At the farm, we helped round up the sheep from the woodland. At the aquarium, we saw loads of fish and celebrated World Ocean Day.

Class 5

Class 5 enjoyed their first week at Forest School on Monday. They also did superb map reading during their Independent Travel Training lesson on Tuesday. Good work, Class 5!

Class 6

This week Class 6 engaged well in their Independent Travel lesson, we took a tram to Sale Waterpark, we got some ice creams and enjoyed the warm weather.

Class 7

Class 7 visited Cronkshaw Care Farm – Farmer Dot taught us about the different types of bees and wild flowers. We found out that the farm is gaining an environmental grant for its wild flower field. We also had a chance to groom the goats; they loved being brushed.

Class 8

Class 8 had a lovely visit to Blue Planet Aquarium on Thursday, which was World Oceans Day. They learned all about different species and how we can help to save our oceans.

Class 9

This week Class 9 enjoyed visiting Blue Planet Aquarium for World Oceans Day. The highlight of the trip was the underwater tunnel through the huge 5 million litre tank ! 🐙🦑🐡🪼🦐🦞🦀🐠🐟🐬🐳🐋

Class 10

This week, Class 10 had a very reflective time visiting Blue Planet Aquarium on Thursday. All pupils were able to develop further awareness of World Oceans' Day 2023. Class 10 pupils were all mindfull of the plastic waste pollution harming our planets, oceans and sealife across the globe. This helped enhance their Laudato Si' class prayer and pledges alongside their past learning through Biology and Geography topics.

Class 11

Class 11 are currently learning about different religions. This week we are learning about Hinduism.

Class 12

Class 12 had an amazing visit to The Blue Planet Aquarium, on World Oceans' Day 2023. We were looking at all the different Ocean aquatic ecosystems and the animals that live in them. We thought about how our rubbish and plastics can affect the Ocean if it ends up there!

Class 13

Class 13 have been working hard at the Children's Adventure Farm Trust. Whilst there, they have been working in the sunshine, on the grounds to make the area look brilliant for all the visitors.

Our Catholic School

‘God so loved the world that he gave us his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.’

We are reminded in the Gospel this week that God has provided us all with the greatest of gifts. Do we really understand the importance of this ‘gift’? We are trying, at SJV, to live our best life and to the fullest, making good use of our gifts and talents.

Within our Catholic school, the chaplaincy team are busy preparing for three big events;

  • Come Dine With Us; we have invited refugees and asylum seekers from our local community in to school to dine with us and share their stories.
  • Our leavers service at the end of June.
  • Our end of year service.

A very busy few weeks for us, lots of wonderful ideas and suggestions generated by our Chaplaincy team.

Within RE this week we have been looking at worldwide faiths. It has been great to discover what we knew already and what we wanted to learn.
