ATHLETICS ADVISORY COUNCIL SAINT JOSEPH'S ATHLETICS

Established in 2020, the Athletics Advisory Council is an advisory body dedicated to supporting and advancing the mission of Saint Joseph’s University Athletics. Typically, council members will consult with and advise the Director of Athletics and athletic administration to champion new as well as continuing initiatives, raise awareness of the department’s strategic direction and successes, and assist in fundraising and community relations while emphasizing alignment with SJU’s vision and mission.

OB/GYN, Novant Health

Charlotte, N.C.

Father of Matt Bohmer ’23 of the Hawks' men's lacrosse program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I want to see the SJU student-athletes have the best possible experience they can have on and off the field.

Favorite Hawks moment? SJU men's lacrosse's win over 20th-ranked Delaware in February, 2020.

Kathryn Whitten Bohmer, M.D. P'23

OB/GYN, Atrium Health

Charlotte, N.C.

Mother of Matt Bohmer '23 of the Hawks' men's lacrosse program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am excited to be a part of building on the foundation and tradition of athletic programs at SJU, with the goal of being a premier Division I athletic program in terms of facilities, training tools, support for student-athletes academically and athletically, and game day atmosphere for fans.

Favorite Hawks moment? The men’s lacrosse team's victory over #20 Delaware at Sweeney Field in February, 2020, on the same day the men’s basketball team had a huge comeback win against Davidson.

Dennis Carroll '04

Chief Operating Officer, FC Cincinnati

Terrace Park, Ohio

Saint Joseph's Class of 2004

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I’m excited about working alongside fellow Saint Joseph's alums who are passionate and prideful about making SJU and the athletic program as successful as possible. The tradition and history of SJU is rich, yet new blood combined with an outside perspective from an advisory board is a great recipe to think differently. We have an opportunity to be bold, creative, and strategic in our combined ideation.

Favorite Hawks moment? This is an easy one for me, as I was a senior on campus during the 2003-04 undefeated men’s basketball season. It was a magical time for students, staff, and alums alike. I tried to attend almost all the games during the regular season and even attended a few of the games in the NCAA Tournament. There is a famous Sports Illustrated cover featuring Jameer Nelson which summed it up perfectly: "The Little Man From the Little School That’s Beating Everyone."

Gina Cavorsi, M.D. '02

Consult and Liaison Psychiatrist, Tower Health, Reading Hospital

Reading, Pa.

Chair, Sport Performance Working Group

Former member of the Hawks' women's track and field/cross country program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am truly excited to be a part of the council and happy to serve in whatever capacity needed. As a psychiatrist, I am probably most excited about finding the best ways to support the emotional and mental health needs of our young, developing student-athletes. The strength and stamina to participate in collegiate sports does not just involve the physical attributes of an athlete, but also the mental and emotional as well. I am hoping to bring my experiences as both a college and Olympic-level athlete, as well as a physician who specializes in mental health, to the council to support and guide initiatives around student-athlete psychological resiliency and wellness.

Favorite Hawks moment? I have so many favorite SJU memories and moments that it is very hard to pick just one. Here are a couple favorites: dancing with Coach Kevin Quinn at my wedding, winning three Atlantic 10 titles at the A-10 Track and Field Championship my senior year, and getting to attend and speak at Coach Quinn’s retirement dinner.

Natasha Cloud '15

WNBA and Converse Athlete

Broomall, Pa.

Former member of the Hawks' women's basketball program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? SJU has given so much to me; what I’m most excited about is making those experiences that much better for the next generation(s) of student-athletes. Making sure that they have every tool to not only be successful on the field or court, but also after college athletics are done.

Favorite Hawks moment? It's so hard to pick my favorite Hawk moment because there have been so many. I could talk about big wins, or tournament appearances, but my favorite memories will always be the time we spent as a team at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia).

Ayahna Cornish-Lowry '07

Founder, Lowry Love Foundation

Wayne, Pa.

Former member of the Hawks' women's basketball program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am excited about the opportunity to reconnect with the University and regain the passion for Hawk Hill. My little brother is a current member of the men's basketball program and I am grateful to share this experience with him as well.

Favorite Hawks moment? My favorite moment as a Hawk would be when I scored my 1,000th point in a game against Temple my senior year. It was a tight game, so during the moment I didn't have time to absorb the accomplishment. My admiration for the Big 5 growing up made this career milestone mean a lot to me because it was achieved against another Big 5 school.

Lorenzo Cuoci P'18

Owner, Cuoci Contractors

Doylestown, Pa.

Chair, Facilities Working Group

Father of Dominic Cuoci '18 of the Hawks' baseball program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? Quite simply the ability to give back, be involved, and help bring opportunities to Saint Joseph's youth.

Favorite Hawks Moment: I could never pick just one; what I will say is I’ve seen so many moments where coaches and/or staff have shown character and leadership that takes my breath away. It’s always about the kids and I’ve always seen that respect shown to the players without regard for what’s popular; they shine with teaching moments regularly. Coaches aren’t afraid to teach, mentor, and help a kid grow without regard to pressures or what’s popular.

Rick DeRose '87

Founder and Managing Partner, Acertitude

Moorestown, N.J.

Saint Joseph's Class of 1987

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? Helping to bring Saint Joseph's basketball back to national significance. When I attended SJU, we were typically in the national discussion and I feel there is a great opportunity to get back there again soon. Not only to return to prominence, but also to sustain excellence. I believe this would elevate the entire SJU brand on a regional, national, and global basis. I am also interested to learn about the other sports at SJU and how we can optimize their performance.

Favorite Hawks moment? While I attended and enjoyed many basketball moments as a alum, the moment that sticks out in my mind years after graduation was when we advanced to the Elite Eight during the Jameer Nelson era. It was great to see us in the national spotlight and it brought so much positive attention to the school. I attended both games that weekend in New Jersey.

Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer, BSE Global

Mantoloking, N.J.

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am excited about a fresh look at the all aspects of the University life, including athletics. Some very difficult decisions were made; time to seize the moment.

Favorite Hawks moment? My favorite moment was the night the men’s basketball team won the Atlantic 10 Tournament at Barclays Center.

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I look forward to serving on the Athletics Advisory Council to assist Athletic Director Jill Bodensteiner with furthering her vision for Saint Joseph's Athletics as part of the University’s overall mission.

Favorite Hawks moment? My favorite moment as a Hawk was medaling at the 2010 Dad Vail Regatta and winning the Bratton Trophy for the third time in school history.

Frank Gumienny '94

Senior VP and Chief Financial Officer, Philadelphia Eagles

Conshohocken, Pa.

Saint Joseph's Class of 1994

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I'm excited to help the current student body and prepare them for their careers. I look forward to sharing my experiences to help them prepare.

Favorite Hawks moment? I loved going to the basketball games with my classmates. We would have dinner together and then walk over to the games.

Mike Hare '83

Senior Vice President, Buccini/Pollin Group

Wilmington, Del.

Former men's basketball manager

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I recognize and believe in the power of athletics to define a University’s brand and to market the school. I believe part of our charge is to support strategies which promote and sustain the programs that we have in support of that effort and I would like to be a part of that.

Favorite Hawks Moment? I have too many to enumerate.

Susan LaMonica P'20

Chief HR Officer, Citizens Financial Group

Allendale, N.J.

Chair, Athletics Advisory Council

Mother of Julia Pash '20 of the Hawks' women's lacrosse program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? As a graduate and active alum of Boston College, I am a big believer in Jesuit education and ideals. I have seen firsthand the power of vision and leadership in reshaping a university and the power of athletics in helping to change the trajectory. I am hoping that the council can contribute to helping shape the future of athletics at SJU, ultimately continuing to further improve the positioning of the University in what has become an increasingly challenging external landscape.

Favorite Hawks moment? I have many favorite memories, most of which center around the camaraderie and friendship that has been formed among the women’s lacrosse families. In particular, tagging along on the team’s trip to the West Coast and to Europe was an incredible experience. I also have fond memories of the 2020 season and a come-from-behind win against a tough Towson team and an overtime victory against Rutgers in probably the coldest game I have ever attended!

Michael McDermott '97

President, Kathmere Capital

Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Former member of the Hawks' golf program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am naturally competitive and while I am happy for neighboring schools, I don’t want SJU to take a back seat to anyone. The world is changing rapidly and I believe that forward-looking vision in life, education, business, or sports can quickly transform one from mediocre to great. I believe SJU should be great.

Favorite Hawks moment? All of the 2003-2004 basketball season; enough said. Second would be our 1997 golf team spring break. We were in West Palm Beach, Florida, for practice. We went into a restaurant and based on our enthusiasm during the SJU-Boston College Round of 32 game, we were approached by the Atlanta Braves, who were at their Spring training. We watched the Hawks win that game alongside legends Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz.

Hayes McGinley '18

Enterprise Account Executive, Relay Network

Philadelphia, Pa.

Chair, Student-Athlete Experience Working Group

Former member of the Hawks' men's lacrosse program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am passionate about helping the council redefine and improve the student-athlete and fan experience while on Hawk Hill. I am also very interested in helping think about new, creative revenue streams associated with sports at SJU that can make the athletic department more profitable.

Favorite Hawks moment? Beating Penn our senior season under the lights at Franklin Field in 2018. We won 12-11 in a battle that tested our team in every way, but we stuck together and pulled it out. It was a great team effort in a game that really defined our season. My grandfather was an All-American football player at Penn and I have a feeling he was watching over me and our team that night, secretly rooting for a Hawks win.

Pat McGrory '99

Private Wealth Manager, Liberty Point Advisors

Vineland, N.J.

Chair, Fan Experience Working Group

Former Hawk mascot

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? The culture and passion within the SJU community cannot be matched, but sometimes the planning and execution of ideas within the community can be improved. I am looking forward to working with so many people who have the same passion, but who have executed ideas within their roles outside of Hawk Hill.

Favorite Hawks moment? The entire 2003-04 men's basketball season was a truly remarkable and unbelievable experience. Also, when I was the Hawk, we were playing in Tulsa and the fans didn't like the fact that I was constantly flapping in front of them. The Sheriff threatened to handcuff me if I kept flapping, and I had to run away from him around the court to avoid the cuffs! Luckily Mr. DiJulia caught up to him, and they compromised and put me in a tunnel...but allowed me to keep flapping!

Chris McIsaac '97

Managing Director, Head of Planning and Development, Vanguard

Newtown Square, Pa.

Former member of the Hawks' men's lacrosse program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I owe a great deal to SJU, so I’m always looking for ways to give back to the school. Athletics was an integral part of my experience, so I’m interested in doing what I can to preserve and enhance the student-athlete experience — with an emphasis on preparing student-athletes for post-collegiate success.

Favorite Hawks moment? The final game of my senior year, we mounted a come-from-behind win over Marist College. That day had it all: great weather, great teammates, friends and family…and a win!

Todd Nettleton '97

Alamo, Calif.

Former member of the Hawks' men's track and field/cross country program

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? Reconnecting with the organization and utilizing my experiences from school and the business world to help current, former, and future SJU student-athletes.

Favorite Hawks moment? Receiving the Most-Improved Athlete award for track my senior season.

Jill Ormandy '03

Asst. General Counsel, Nashville Predators

Nashville, Tenn.

Saint Joseph's Class of 2003

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? SJU truly played a major part in developing who I am as a person and as a professional and I’m excited about the ability to give back to Hawk Hill through my unique professional experiences and expertise. I’m honored to participate in shaping the future of SJU athletics.

Favorite Hawks moment? I love basketball and always enjoyed attending games at The Fieldhouse. Even before the team had a winning record, the student section was so invested and cheered on the team so loudly. I remember getting basketball season tickets and the number of times I was able to attend an electric and competitive game and chant “The Hawk Will Never Die” or pass a banner taunting the opposing team down the stands throughout my time at SJU will always be cherished.

Sam Porter '04

Chief Strategy Officer, D.C. United

Washington, D.C.

Saint Joseph's Class of 2004

What about the Council are you most passionate/excited about? I am passionate about working with fellow stakeholders to improve the overall landscape of SJU athletics. The way that athletics connects with the school impacts everything from how the school is viewed nationally and internationally, to how the current students feel about attending the school. It is probably the most public facing aspect of the University, so my passion/excitement lies in the opportunity to enhance our position in that space.

Favorite Hawks moment? Beating Wake Forest in the Sweet 16 my senior year at SJU.
