Is it possible to describe an industrial process in an abstract way? Does production necessarily need to be described in the usual measures or is there more behind than only a digital process? Heavy Metal is a compact and abstract picture series which documents the making of a car from the beginning in the factory to its presentation at an auto show. Locations: Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg/Germany and IAA Cars in Frankfurt/German.
Body construction
The steel leaves the press plant bent and pressed. In the following body shop shop it becomes hot immediately: Mostly robots are welding the parts. About 1,800 of them are used in the body shop of the plant in Wolfsburg. They hand over the parts one by one and pinch the blanks with their brazing tongs. With each single step the design of the body becomes more and more visible.
