NelumBox Hightech Medical Transport - a Fusion 360 Startup Success Story

Tec4med is a startup based in Darmstadt, Germany that has developed the NelumBox - the world's most advanced thermal solution for goods requiring temperature control.

check out the website - its very cool.

Darmstadt is a center of high-tech innovation in Germany. It was recently named Germany's most "Future Ready City" by a leading European business magazine, and its the location of our own AU Germany. The town has a large university, an active maker-scene and large number of tech startups.
Nico, Julian and Martin

The founder team of Nico Hoeler, Julian Poths and Martin Voigt got the idea to develop the NelumBox from Martin. And have grown from a one-man startup to a team of eleven employees in just a few years! (and they are hiring!)

Martin spent time during university working as an on-board courier. He earned extra money by transporting sensitive and time-critical packages as an airline passenger. Often, these are packages that need special care or are sensitive - or both. One of his biggest jobs was transporting blood samples from the Soccer World Cup in Brazil back to the drug testing agency in Switzerland.

Believe it or not - this was all done using disposable one-use coolers.

8 tons of trash and thousands and thousands of Euros worth of material for 2 liters of blood

Martin thought to himself - "There has got to be a better way to do this....."

Martin immediately began work on a re-usable transport box with IoT features in his parent's garage upon his return!

Without any CAD

Martin's own words are amazing:

"What a fail. Nobody called. With the only targeted customer the resonance was "interesting". The ambiguity of the word in relation to a product only became clear to me later. So I had to lick my wounds and think about why I failed despite the obvious need and benefit. ... Through the Entrepreneurs Club of the TU Darmstadt I found my two wonderful co-founders Nico and Julian, but I still didn't know how to present our product until I found Fusion 360!"
"Design, simulation, manufacturing, animation and presentation in one! A look and feel... no software for specialists but for determined makers. I bought another 3D printer and started with fast iterations, visualizing an idea didn't take days - it didn't even take hours! People see better than they hear. I still do it this way:....Open the laptop, show the animated 3D model and the customer benefit immediately becomes clear. If enough good feedback is received.... onto the printer/laser/router with it. Everything comes from one source with Fusion 360 on my 500 Euro notebook with computing power from the cloud."

The NelumBox transports temperature-critical packages securely, allowing access to the contents only via a secure RFID chip, and it monitors internal and external temperature continuously, as well as its location and any shock to the package. This is all transmitted via GSM to the cloud where the data can be controlled in real time. To comply with airline regulations, it can be switched to airplane mode, and in the event of a loss of connectivity, it simply stores the data locally and uploads at the next opportunity.

...it is 100% Fusion 360 designed and manufactured.

the team has won several awards for their design, and the box is already in use around the world by couriers, in home care, in pharmacies....everywhere!

They won the Hessian Startup prize too....check out this video:

Startup Success!

Tec4med have graduated from the Startup program and have now purchased several licenses of Fusion 360 for their company! They are looking for new employees and are specifically searching for people with Fusion 360 experience!

Tec4med is a great Fusion 360 startup success story. I found Martin's description inspiring and Tec4med are adamant that without Fusion 360 - they would not have been a success!

I’m really proud that Tec4med has chosen Fusion 360 and that they are so happy with it! I’ll be working with them to ensure it stays that way.

Presentation at Fusion 360 Academy India

Martin presented as a keynote speaker for us at the Fusion 360 Academy India to over 350 people. In addition, he lead a class on Entrepreneurship for us that had standing room only space and aver 200 attendees.
