Creatively Wild Hearts!

Tuesday, February 12th, two nights before Valentine's Day, families spent the evening enjoying a DIY Heart Craft with Creatively Wild Arts and the Tuesday Night Team.

We had some real budding artists who were excited about exploring their creative side and they were thrilled about making a beautiful gift for someone special in their life. Each heart was very unique; just like each person there. Emily's solid red heart was the first to be completed, and it was bold and strong. There were so many multi colored hearts, some with bold straight lines, some with wild and whimsical curvy lines… each "crafted heart" representing an individual's personality.

Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?

Thursday was an action packed night at the house. The Bloomberg team stopped by to prepare a gourmet dinner complete with an interactive dessert bar! Kids (and adults) took part in letting their creative juices flow by decorating cookies and cupcakes. Standouts included intricately decorated sugar cookies and elaborately decorated double decker cupcake sandwiches.

After the edible artwork was devoured, everyone enjoyed a puppet show in the playroom, fittingly titled “Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar.”

Bingo Magic!

This Wednesday was filled with such simple fun. The night started out with a delicious meal provided by EJ’s and served by the ITG group. ITG is a financial tech firm that comes to the house monthly. Denisse was the leader of the ITG group and she was so sweet to everyone! Their meal consisted of grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, but most importantly, the highly desired dinosaur chicken nuggets!

After dinner was wrapping up the Wednesday night team shifted the room into Bingo mode. You could tell that the families were so excited to play and it was truly amazing to see the kids’ faces light up when they won and got to pick their prize! Bingo at the House truly bonds everyone together as they help repeat what numbers were called and help each other find them on their boards- it is so heartwarming to watch!

Meet us on Broadway!

What do Elsa, Spongebob, Matilda, and Glinda have in common? They’ve all been on Broadway! The families of RMH-NY got to dance and sing along to their favorite Broadway tunes with Broadway.com on Thursday.

The night began with a delicious catered Italian dinner served by employees of Broadway.com’s corporate office. After dinner, Broadway performers hosted a Broadway Classroom event for all of the kids and families in the living room.

First, the kids gathered at the front of the room to “warm-up” with dancing to Spongebob songs, karaoke to “Let It Go”, and a few rounds of “Simon Says”. Then, the families sat together and listened to the performers sing songs from their previous Broadway shows – favorites included a song from The Music Man and The Sound of Music. Later, the performers answered questions about their experiences on Broadway and gave career advice to the kids – we have a few aspiring performers in the House!

Dinner, Puppets and a Jam Session!

Tuesday, February 19 was a very special night at the house. Temple Emanu-El stopped by to serve a delicious dinner. They also brought puppets and a puppet theater for the children to play with! Each child got to pick a puppet of their choice to take home. The Temple Emanu-El team even cut the puppet’s hair! The children absolutely loved it!

After dinner, the fun continued in the playroom. Jamming with Jamie stopped by and provided a dance-filled evening for the children. They sang and danced with the children all night long with a variety of props including shakers, scarves and a parachute. The excitement reached a whole new level when they brought out a bubble machine! Everyone left the play room smiling from ear to ear!

Stuffed Animals and Art!

What a wonderful fun filled night! The evening began with a delicious dinner hosted by our partners from PVH. During dinner, our friends at the “Guy M. Stewart Cancer Fund” were giving out amazing stuffed animals to all of the children - and the kids loved them! Of course, the growling dinosaurs were a big hit as they repeated whatever you said in a scary dinosaur voice. There were also superhero bears, whales, giraffes, etc. to choose from. In addition to all the excitement, we also had the special treat of celebrating Kayla’s 9th Birthday with a beautiful cake.

Then, the fun followed down into the playroom with the “The Ink Well Foundation.” The kids got to meet the professional artists from the team, and enjoy their creative talents. Then, they also got to try their hands at being artists themselves, with the guidance and motivation from the professionals. We had a very creative group last night. I can almost guarantee with all of this excitement packed into just one night, a good night sleep was had by all.
