The ITA Assistant Coach of the Year honors an assistant coach who has exhibited outstanding leadership in ways that contribute to on and off-court team performance.
In Coach Taylor Fogleman's four years with the Longhorns he has helped the program develop into one of the top teams in the nation. Coach Fogleman played a major role in recruiting the Tennis Recruiting Network's top recruiting class in 2020. The freshman-heavy Longhorn team blazed its way to the third NCAA title in program history. Texas's only loss on the season came in the ITA National Team Indoors finals to UNC. The Longhorns were undefeated in conference play and captured the regular season and conference Big 12 Championship title. Fogleman helped three Texas freshman capture ITA All-American honors this year.
A Letter from University of Texas Vice President & Athletic Director, Chris Del Conte
Coach Taylor Fogleman,
I am honored to announce that you have been selected as the 2020-21 ITA Division I Women’s National Assistant Coach of the Year. From the moment you joined Howard Joffe’s staff four years ago, you have been a respected servant leader and this recognition is richly deserved.
First, we must recognize the recruiting efforts from yourself and Coach Joffe to assemble our outstanding roster for this past year. I know you were a huge piece to that puzzle, and I value how much Howard trusts and appreciates your evaluation and relationship-building skills.
This was in no way a ‘normal’ year, so a shout-out to you and Coach Joffe for not only landing the top recruiting class in the nation, but also executing a plan to get each of your newcomers to our campus this year. In many ways, that was half the battle!
One of the core elements of the Texas Women’s Tennis program is player development. Watching you and Coach Joffe work every day with this unique roster to not only get them better on the court, but also create such a beautiful and real family atmosphere was something special.
And the results spoke for themselves. A 31-1 dual-match record. A sweep of the Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament titles. And then the six-match run in the NCAA Tournament that ended in such a magical way in Orlando with an NCAA team title! I’m still getting goosebumps re-watching Lexi Sun’s match point and the ensuing celebration. What a moment that will live forever in Texas Athletics history!
Congratulations to the ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year. You are a rising star!
