Class 5 Learning Journey Spring term 1 - 2022/2023

Literacy

During Literacy this half term we have focused on recounts.

We used skills such as questions, exclamations, conjunctions, and a variety of powerful adjectives; to help us to write a letter a recount of our school trip and a formal letter in the role of Tiddler to try and persuade the class to stop laughing at his adventurous tales of adventure.

As a hook into our new unit we went on a school trip to the deep.

We thought carefully about how we would feel if we were in Charlie's position and reflected this in our final outcome.

We have worked really hard on our presentation this term and our teachers have noticed how hard we have worked when we have published some of our final pieces.

LIRA

In LIRA this term, we have explored a range of fictions texts which linked closely to our geography topic. We have worked very hard on our reading for fluency. We have learnt how to use expression and though carefully about the purpose of punctuation.

This term we have read, Ocean Meets the Sky, Tiddler and The Snail and the Whale.

Maths

In maths this half term we have learnt how to use formal written methods for addition and subtraction and focused on carrying and exchanging. We really impressed our teachers with our resilience and determination to crack it! Throughout this half term, we have also learnt how to multiply and divide, recapped our knowledge 2D shapes as well as learning how to tell the time.

We have also continued to show the school values of being resilient and independent during these lessons because they have been challenging.

Topic

This half term our focus area for topic has been on Geography. During this topic we have focused on the continents and oceans of the world.

In our lessons we have explored the human and physical features of different locations and thought about why we might want to live there.

Science

In science this term we have explored animals including humans.

We started off by exploring different types of animals and their offspring.

Once we had developed our understanding of this, we then moved onto exploring how to keep our bodies healthy.

Finally, we learned about different food chains and even made some of our own!

Spellings

In class 5 we have continued to work hard on our spellings.

Keep logging onto Spelling Shed and let's all continue to improve our spelling skills.

Who will be at the top of the leader board next half term?

Celebrations

During this half we have had lots of children show the school values and were awarded certificate!

Lots of other celebrations too.

Make sure you continue to share your celebrations from home with us by either bringing things into school, on Twitter or on Seesaw - we love to see them!

Trip to the Deep!

As part of our Literacy and Geography units this half term we were lucky enough to visit The Deep. We participated in a where children were able to see all of the amazing sea creatures. Following this, we got to take part in a workshop where the children learnt all about how to take better care of the ocean.

Next half term we will be learning...

Have a lovely break!

Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming you back in a weeks time.
