Valerie J Kelley, MAHealing Arts Specialist - creator of peaceful art for public spaces
With a Masters Degree in Arts in Medicine, I spend part of my time teaching art to cancer patients and their caregivers at a large hospital system in Orlando, Florida. I also teach and supervise multiple other artists in nine different treatment areas as they make art with patients during chemotherapy, in waiting rooms, at the bedside, in workshops, and online. I specialize in art for wellness.
Teaching painting to people who are suffering helps to transport them out of their suffering and gives them back some control in helping their bodies return to homeostasis.

For over 30+ years, my unique art creations and photographs intend to elicit a relaxation response for the viewer. I have a large body of work in multiple art mediums.
ART FOR WELLNESS
Some of what I create is intentionally metaphorical. I created this watercolor painting below to encourage those who are suffering; to keep dancing even if it seems they are in deep water. The original painting is hanging in the Orlando Health Cancer Institute.

This acrylic painting, along with 14 others, was transposed onto multiple substrates for hospital in Lakeland, Florida
This painting can be created in any color scheme needed.
I am versed in a wide range of mediums to create any custom effect with any color scheme. I am prepared to originate or collaborate works of art by myself or with others. I am available for adjustments, or customization for any project.
This acrylic painting is one of my most common images used for public space.
I am accustomed to painting large or small art pieces.
I am available for in person, mural creation in the Central Florida area. I enjoy adding 3D elements to my 2D works. I am an expert in 3D work creating dioramas in multiple states for public display using plaster, polyacrylic, and foam.
My photography depicts hopeful images that are intended to provide a relaxation response. Research indicates that nature photography causes patients to be more relaxed in a medical environment than medical posters.
A lot of photography I take is from interesting trips I've taken around the United States.
Photographs can be utilized on multiple substrates, even light boxes, metal, or acrylic.
I take a lot of peaceful photography from our family's plane.
Another peaceful photograph from our plane.
I'm very happy with the results I can get from my camera whether from a distance or close up.
Taken on vacation with the idea that these would help someone decompress from everyday life.
In 2022, MDC referred me to a General Contractor to customize this wave for SeaWorld's Storefront at the Concourse C of the Orlando Florida Airport. I painted each metal piece with a special thixotropic material and used a diamond coating finish for durability.
