Lute Women's Tennis vs. Whitworth 2021-2022 Pacific Lutheran University Women's Tennis Digital Match Program

Setting the Scene: Pacific Lutheran caps off the weekend homestand today, welcoming in-state rival Whitworth University to the Sprinker Rec Center for a Northwest Conference dual match.

About the Lutes: Pacific Lutheran (2-7, 0-1 NWC) opened up NWC action last weekend, ending up on the wrong side of a 9-0 scoreline against host Lewis & Clark College.

Taylor Stokes and Ella Burriss battled at No. 1 doubles but ultimately fell short 8-3 while in singles action Lilian Nguyen put together a strong performance at No. 5 before falling, 7-5, 6-3.

Meggie Burnett leads the team in singles wins with five on the season, playing exclusively at the No. 4 position while Ella Burriss is 4-2 having bounced around between the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 spots.

Burnett additionally leads the team in doubles wins with five with four of those coming in collaboration with Tianna Jeffries.

About the Pirates: Whitworth (2-3, 1-1 NWC) has had mixed results to start NWC play, splitting its opening two matches of the league schedule. The Pirates were drubbed 9-0 by Whitman College in the opener before edging George Fox University 5-4 last Saturday.

Aleah Kert is the Pirates' top singles player, owning a 2-3 mark at the No. 1 slot while Hannah Plank has a 2-3 record at the No. 2 position.

In doubles play, Jill Hughes and Kara Nelson have combined for a 3-1 record playing at the No. 3 position.
