Mountain School News April 2022 Monthly Newsletter

Hello Families,

Including today, we only have students in the building for 36.5 more days. We need every day to contribute towards learning and it is critical that you continue to help your student have great attendance as we finish the year. In the next seven weeks our staff will continue to be innovative in their teaching to reach our year end goals and to help students be prepared for their next journey.

In our short month and half left together we have several more units of material to teach, projects to wrap up, and CMAS (state) testing. This month, I would like to concentrate on informing parents about CMAS testing (for 3rd through 5th grades) and to give advice on how to help your students be prepared and ready. I would also like to remind all parents that this information is invaluable and can be applied to student’s everyday attitude towards their education and being prepared for school each day.

  • Prepare the night before: Make sure your student knows that the test is the next day. When students know what their next day looks like this helps eliminate anxiety, eases nerves, and helps students to be prepared for what is ahead.
  • Sufficient Sleep: According to the National Sleep Foundations, elementary students need 11 – 13 hours of sleep. Getting enough rest is important not just for overall health, but it can also improve student’s ability to focus, learn, and retain facts.
  • Brain Food: Students can have trouble concentrating on an empty stomach, and junk food can cause sugar spikes followed by sharp crashes. Research shows that eating a healthy diet improves student’s focus, mental capacity, and exam performance. Have your student eat a hearty meal the night before to help with a good night’s rest and give your student extra time in the morning to wake up and have a healthy breakfast.
  • Growth Mindset: Stress and anxiety can often cause students to experience negative thoughts and self-criticism. Promoting a growth mindset can help students overcome these feelings. It is important for students to understand that tests are a snapshot in time and that improvements in performance will always come as a student learns more each day. It is also helpful to remind them this is a tool to help teachers tailor instruction to each student’s needs.

We thank you for your partnership with testing and your student’s education. In this month’s newsletter you will find information regarding Game Fest, 5th grade graduation, April calendars, and much more.

Enjoy the many great pictures from our three Mountain School Campuses.

Thank you,

Principal Schachet

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support

PBIS is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support for staff and students. Each month we recognize students who have exceptionally demonstrated a PBIS character trait.

During February and March we concentrated on diversity and resilience. We will recognize students in the next few weeks at our school assemblies and will announce the students who have exceptionally demonstrated these character traits.

April's character trait is strength.

"For the month of April, we will be exploring your students' strengths and how they could use those abilities to help those around them. It is our hope as educators that every student recognizes that they have strengths unique to them and are always continuing to grow in these strengths. Throughout April, students will have the opportunity to explore other hobbies and interests to increase their knowledge of their abilities and possibly discover ones they didn't know they have yet. We are looking forward to building even more strength and confidence in our mountain kids. 🙂"~ Ms. Sarah Kress, Mountain Schools Counselor

School Resource Officer Feedback

As part of Poudre School District’s commitment to ongoing evaluation of its School Resource Officer (SRO) Program, the district created a new online form that students, staff, families and community members can use to share feedback about their interactions with School Resource Officers.

The form is available here. Completing it is voluntary. For those completing a form, the more information you share, the more helpful it will be for our teams. More information >>
