Indian River State earns 48th consecutive national title

Fort Pierce, FL - Indian River State has captured the ultimate goal of hoisting the 2022 NJCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship title for the 48th consecutive season. In total, the Pioneers put together 1,406 points, 66 points greater than last year. Four individuals collected 70 points or more after efforts in Fort Pierce.

Southwestern Oregon posted 772.50 points and were led by Trenton Clark and Brayden Franzke. Last year, the team finished with 598 points in third place. The Lakers outlasted Barton (KS) by 181 points.

Barton (KS) totaled 591.50, improving to third this year from a fourth-place team finish last year. Johan Cue Carrillo brought in 63 points for the Cougars.

Championship Results

Indian River State pulled away from competition to pull together an astonishing 1,406 points ahead of 10 teams.

Southwestern Oregon finished second this year to edge Barton (KS) and Iowa Central, No. 4 and No. 2 last year, respectively.

The men's and women's Indian River State teams dominated the lanes and pool, sweeping the national titles in their backyard.

Tie for NJCAA Swimmer of the Meet honor

Over four days, competition was close and the 2022 NJCAA Male Swimmer of the Meet award was presented to Alex Metzler of Southwestern Oregon and William Beckstead-Holman of Indian River State.

The freshman due scored 1-2 with 80 points each. Metzler took first in the 1000 yard freestyle, the 400 yard IM, the 500 yard freestyle, among others.

Beckstead-Holman captured first in the 100 yard backstroke, the 50 yard backstroke, the 400 yard medley relay, and more.

Pioneers receive Male Diver of the Meet honor among team honors

Sam Hlavachek of Indian River was awarded the 2022 NJCAA Male Diver of the Meet award. The diver put on stellar performances in the 1 and 3 meter diving events.
Cal O'Neil of Monroe CC (NY) earned the 2022 NJCAA Non-Scholarship Male Swimmer of the Meet award posting 12 points for the Tribunes.

The 2022 Dr. Jack Cistriano Service Award was dedicated to Kevin Salisbury, the Athletic Director from CC of Rhode Island.

Bullock of Lakers collects coach of the year accolade

Sandra Bullock was named the 2022 NJCAA Swim Coach of the Year award after leading Southwestern Oregon to a second-place finish overall.

Southwestern Oregon had three of the top-six highest individual scorers.

The Men's Diving Coach of the Year is David Suba for Indian River State.
