HeadTeacher's Update Autumn Term Week 10

Dear Parents,

Today is Remembrance Day, a time to pause, reflect and remember those who have served our country in past and present conflicts. We have marked the occasion together in a number of ways, starting with a special assembly this morning to help the children understand more about the different people and ways that we remember. Our Year 6 class shared their moving responses about what Remembrance Day means to them and read a beautiful poem called For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon. We observed the two minute silence at 11:00am together, finishing with a prayer reading.

Thank you to those who sent in photos of their loved ones to share with our community on the display created by our Catering Manager, Linda. We have also been raising money for the Royal British Legion through contributions to poppy pins this week and we are so impressed with Year 1's Gardens of Remembrance which they created in their Art lesson. You can see some of them in the email header above.

Reach Out - Antibullying Week 2022

Reach Out is the national theme for Anti-Bullying week which takes place from 14 - 18 November. We launched the theme in assemblies this week to help our pupils understand that they are never too small to make a change and to show kindness both in person and online. Children will be encouraged next week to be kind to each other, and reminded who they should talk to if they need help. Children and staff are also encouraged to come to school wearing odd socks for the whole week to show their support and celebrate what makes us all unique! We look forward to seeing the different socks to remind everyone to reach out and show kindness.

Congratulations to Year 5 pupil, Marian, for winning this year's Festival of Light photography competition with his photo, The Dream. We had a record number of entries this year and our professional judge, Dave Toney, was very impressed with the quality.

Calling All Scientists!

We are looking for people working in the field of Science to come and speak to our pupils about their area of expertise and give them an insight into possibilities beyond the classroom. If you or anyone you know associated with our community would be interested in helping out, please read the letter linked below from our Science Lead, Mrs Wilson.

Year 6 Mock Exams & Interviews - Action Required

We are offering Year 6 pupils two opportunities to receive support with their preparations for senior school entrance tests. Please read the letter from our Director of Academics, Tamara Hunt, linked below, and get in touch regarding the mock exam and interview opportunities if you are interested.

Year 3 to 6 - Rugby Mouthguards

With the Rugby season fast approaching, making sure your child has an effective mouthguard is imperative to keeping them safe during fixtures/training. We are pleased to announce we have affiliated with OPRO (a leading brand in sports protection technology) who will be providing bespoke, self-fit, protective mouthguards for our school.

Staff Update

Please join us in sending huge congratulations to Year 3 Teacher, Chloe Clark, who had her baby girl, Ivy, on Tuesday this week. We wish her all the very best and can't wait to meet the newest member of the St Edward's community!

Have a lovely weekend and if you do have a family member who is serving or has served our country, our thoughts will be with them this weekend.

Best wishes,

Jonathan
