Content Info For The Week
Math (Carver, Beasley, and Meeks):
Students will be constructing a robot using three dimensional shapes. They will be using cones, cylinders, and spheres. After they draw and design their robot, they will calculate the total volume of their robot.
Algebra I (Meeks):
Algebra one will review exponent properties with integer exponents and begin using rational exponents. On Thursday, we will move into polynomial classification and operations with polynomials.
Read 180 (Styron and Barker):
This week in R180 students will begin working on a DBQ (document based question) activity titled Meaning & Metaphor: What is Frost Saying?. The main objective of the activity is that students will conduct a short research project in order to answer a question (including a self-generated question), drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions that allow for multiple avenues of exploration.
ELA (MacArthur and Lee):
This week in Mrs. Lee's class, we will complete test corrections over our Unit 2 assessment. We will focus on reading comprehension, identifying theme, language usage, and connotation/denotation.
This Week in Mr. MacArthur’s class, Students will work on their test corrections for the Unit 2 Test we took before the break. Then, we will jump straight into our new unit centered around our next novel Hidden Figures.
9th Grade Lit (Lee):
This week in Mrs. Lee's class, we will be continuing our study of our whole-class novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will read the essay "Why Women Do Not Reform Their Dress" in conjunction with chapter 9. We will focus on tracking theme and identifying key vocabulary. **Please note that beginning this week, students may be assigned reading outside of class as homework. Students have been provided with a copy of the novel.
Science (Winkworth and Herndon):
This week students will develop the understanding of energy transformations using mechanical energy, electrical energy, and magnetic forces. Students will learn how magnetic forces work and how we use those forces to affect our lives. They will learn the basic principles of how to create and use electromagnets, generators, and motors. Electromagnets use electrical energy to create a magnetic force. Motors use magnetic forces to transform electrical energy into mechanical energy. Generators use magnetic forces to transform mechanical energy into electrical energy.
Social Studies (MacArthur and Collier):
We are excited to welcome back the students after the break!! Hopefully they are well rested and ready to learn. Georgia Studies will start the new semester by diving into the "New South Era." This unit will look at changes to Southern Society as well as the attempts to keep Southern Society unchanged!
Look what we have been up to!
