Creativity nursery, spring term, week 6

Being creative and imaginative comes naturally to our budding writers, artists, and future innovaters in nursery. We've had plenty of opportunities to grow these characteristics this week. The best of which was definitely our Royal Ball.

We became princes and princesses (and superheroes..) and headed into the hall to greet our parents for cake and dancing.

Walking down the red carpet to arrive at the ball.

Back in class, Mrs Shaw has been helping us to have a go at using new materials such as charcoal and trying observational drawing alongside our friends in reception.

Artwork using found materials.
Touching, smelling, and drawing with charcoal.
Following the children's interests to draw on both the outside and inside of boxes.
Experimenting with mixing water with oil pastels, they didn't smudge.

Outside we love to run, jump, and make large movements with our bodies. This week we spent time learning about gymnastics and how to control our movements.

Stretching and making body shapes.
Big stretch and balance at the same time.

Our phonics focus is to develop the ability to orally blend sounds. That means we need to be able to hear separate sounds and blend them together to hear the word. For example, p-i-nk is pink. This week we focussed on colours, please support your child at home by continuing this over half term!

'Cross the river if you can see r-e-d'.
Laying the colours out and hearing their names.
In maths we have been thinking about weight and comparing heavy and light classroom items.

We have very much enjoyed our learning together through play this half term. I hope you all have a lovely week at home and we will see you back in school on the 27th February.

Lots of opportunities for play.
