Four Pillars of Neighbourhood Policing A quick guide

Visibility

What is VISIBILITY?

Oxford Dictionary – visibility

The state of being able to see or be seen

What is meant by the term ‘visibility’ in the context of NHP?

It's about being ‘seen’ by the public, providing reassurance, deterring criminal or anti-social behaviour etc.

About being able to see as well as be seen!

Visibility not only means enabling the public to see us but by being out in the neighbourhood amongst the various communities enables us to ‘see’ as well.

Despite compelling evidence to prove that mere police visibility alone does not reduce or prevent crime the public still hold great store by it. It therefore forms an essential part of commitment/obligation to ensure our communities feel safe.
