Brea Olinda High School’s Brea Olinda Adult Transition Program Volunteers

This summer, the Brea Resource Center partnered with the Brea Olinda Adult Transition Program (BOAT) at Brea Olinda High School. BOAT is designed to meet the educational needs of students, ages 18-21, who have moderate to severe cognitive disabilities. Through this partnership, students volunteered their time and efforts to help maintain the Tracks at Brea trail. The partnership recently concluded its seven-week program, which consisted of 10 BOAT students. We are grateful for the participants that took the time to care for our community.

The City of Brea’s 34th Annual Brea Fest will be taking place on Friday, August 12, from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. throughout the Brea Civic & Cultural Center, on Randolph Street and a portion of Birch Street. There is excitement in the air for Brea Fest’s return after two years of a pause due to the pandemic. The City is eager to spotlight Brea’s arts, specifically the Brea Art Gallery and Curtis Theatre. They both will showcase art projects, demonstrations, and live performances for the community to enjoy. There is plenty of happiness and anticipation to engage with restaurants, marketplace crafters, and the community at this end-of-summer party!

The Brea Gallery’s New Exhibit is Now Open

The Brea Gallery is pleased to announce its newest exhibit, Pure Unadulterated Joy, currently on display. This bright and whimsical collection of artwork features 11 artists from all over the country, and will be sure to give everyone a sugar rush with all its sweetness.

The opening night reception was free to the public and several hundred people stopped in to see the exhibit for the first time. Everyone enjoyed cotton candy and popcorn sponsored by The Bounauro Team. For this exhibit, visitors are encouraged to engage with two interactive spaces such as creating a postcard, to “send some joy,” and a paint wall to “express your joy.” There is even a playlist of music to “hear some joy” while touring the art.

The Gallery has resumed normal business hours, Wednesday through Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m.

The Community Enjoyed This Summer’s Family Films

The City hosted its last Family Film of this summer, Disney's Moana, at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center Plaza on Friday, July 22. A large crowd was in attendance as over 250 community members were at the showing.

It was great to see the community excited about the event and enjoying the beautiful weather. Thanks to the Sheila Buonauro Realty Team, cotton candy and popcorn were available for this special event. The children in attendance were also happy to have an opportunity to meet and take photos with Moana herself. This night was a spectacular way to end this summer’s Family Films series and many are already looking forward to next summer.
