Falconer's Hill Academy Our children, their future, our responsibility

Principal's Message

What a week! We were not expecting the snow to have such an impact on the school. Thursday we managed to open but Friday was not possible at all. We are hopeful that the weather will turn warmer and we can begin to enjoy spring. This week another group of 60 intrepid children were scientist for the day and visited the Science Museum. The children all had a great day and were thoroughly exhausted by the walking; Mrs Hales tried her hardest to keep them going. Thank you to our parent volunteers and again to the PTA for their fundraising subsidy.

Learning Round-up

It’s been another busy week in Maple class. In maths this week we have started our geometry topic, In Talk for writing we have been looking at descriptive writing and writing a descriptive paragraph on creatures from our spiderwick book. In science we have been doing some research on insects. Everyone has worked so hard. Well done to all!

As always, Silver Birch have been amazing this week! We've started our Geometry topic and loved hunting for right angles! It's been great seeing all of our characters develop in the class and there has been an overall improvement in our presentation. Well done Silver Birch!

This week Pine and Elder have been working really hard and finished off our Time topic in maths. Try testing us on how well we can tell the time, all practise is good! We also started our Amber writes in Talk for Writing, and enjoyed exploring the mythical creature Nifflers for this piece of writing. In Science we learnt about different stars in our solar system, which we found fascinating!

Sequoia and Willow class has had a great week! The children have worked extremely hard in Maths, furthering their understanding of decimal fractions. In Talk for Writing we have continued to explore instructional writing. We have also imagined we were stranded on a desert island and written letters to put in a bottle and float out to sea. The children were very creative with the dangers that were lurking on their islands. Let’s hope the bottles reach land and we are rescued soon!

In Oak this week we have been continuing with our WWII topic in History learning about the women's land army and child evacuation. There have been some brilliant discussions and input from Oak class showing great engagement with the topic. We have also been continuing our topic of the life cycle of plants understanding vascular and Nonvascular plants, the class created some great comparisons between these in their writing. Great work Oak class!

This week Acer have written letters as children who were evacuated in world war 2, discussing the experiences children had. In Talk for Writing they have written newspaper articles about a crime that took place at The Three Bears house. They have included direct speech from witnesses and thought carefully about their vocabulary choices. Keep up the great work Acer!

Reading

Your child should have come in with their Accelerated Reader book and reading journal. Please remember to record when your child is reading at home. A target of 3 times a week or more is great.
