Meet our Principal Designate

We are excited to announce the recent appointment of David Green as Principal Designate of Shireland CBSO Academy.

David is currently Deputy Secondary School Improvement Director for Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust and was previously Vice Principal at Shireland Collegiate Academy. He is passionate about supporting all students to reach their potential and is particularly excited about the opportunities that our partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) present for young musicians in Sandwell and the wider West Midlands.

David grew up in a musical family and has always enjoyed playing music, learning to play the trombone from an early age. Performing in a variety of groups and ensembles has allowed him to understand the way that music supports the development of key skills and qualities, even though his trombone playing is not quite CBSO-calibre! Together with Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust and the CBSO, he is committed to creating an environment where our students can flourish musically and academically.

David said: “Shireland CBSO Academy will offer an unprecedented opportunity to our students, giving them the chance to learn from and engage with a world-famous orchestra in the CBSO. We are committed to serving all of the students in our area who have a passion for music and we’re very excited to welcome our first Year 7 and 12 students in September 2023.”
Sir Mark Grundy, CEO of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust said: “David’s appointment as Principal Designate is the latest exciting development in our journey towards the opening of Shireland CBSO Academy. David has worked for the Trust for more than 15 years and together we look forward to creating a school that will serve the West Midlands’ young musicians for years to come.”
