Shawnee Alliance SnapShot june 16 - Edition 30

In this Edition:

Message from Pastor Kris

Summer is here, and with it, our new sermon series starts this coming Sunday. This summer we will journey through the minor prophets. Although many of us have learned to be intimidated or just bored with teachings such as the minor prophets, it's worth taking a fresh look at these Old Testament books to see how God is continuing to reveal Himself through the Scriptures. This summer, I look forward to our time worshipping together and reinforcing the love of our God for each of us, despite our failures; and together, seeing a clear vision of what God's people are called to become.

Part of fulfilling our call is finding ways to intentionally share God's truth with those outside of our own church. To that end, we are excited to partner with LifeWise to provide Bible-based character education to grades K-4. This summer we will be busy preparing our facilities to host Shawnee students during the school day to hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. If you would like more information about the program, how to volunteer, or how to register your child, please visit www.lifewiseacademy.org/limashawneeoh.

Blessings,

Kris

Building a community of faith... Leading people to become fully transformed followers of Jesus Christ.

Lunch will be provided and we will create space for students to bring friends for conversations about life, faith and God. This group is specifically designed for inviting those who are unsure about their faith or even what that means, along with no Christian or church background. Friday, July 8 from 2pm-4pm is our church's designated time to pray for all the high school students who are attending LIFE 2022 in Orlando. It is the last day of the event for over 5,500 students.

Our role is to lift them up during this time when they will be reflecting on their week and the commitments they have made, and are figuring out how to best apply all that they have learned when they get back home. They will be getting close to wrapping up later that night and traveling back the next day, so please also be in prayer for safe travels. (And don't forget to pray for the attending adults, too!)

Please gather with us in the HopeShakers Room (East Campus Room D) to pray God's power and glory over these students! If you are unable to pray in person, please mark this time on your calendar to sit in prayer for a few moments to unite in prayer over our students!

Ministry Highlights

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen

Shawnee Alliance Church helps on the 3rd Thursdays and the 4th Tuesdays of each month from 11am-1pm to serve lunch at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. We distribute drinks, cook and serve food, take trays to the elderly, visit and pray with the clients, play piano, and more. We enjoy serving others and spending time with them, investing in their lives and helping them get to know Jesus through us.

Summer provides a unique opportunity to bring your school-aged children along and serve as a family! With two serving times each month, it is even easier to help our kids to understand the value of serving others, to gain a new experience, and to see our blessings in a new way.

Ronan McCullough, serving at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen

Ronan recently served with me at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. He enjoyed passing out pastries. When he noticed the trays needed moved from the second shelf to the top shelf he jumped up and moved them without anyone asking him! Then he helped me wipe off all the tables. There were some other kids there eating and I asked him if he wanted to join the other kids to eat and he replied, very sincerely, "No, I want to serve".

Tuesday, June 28 is your next chance to serve like Ronan! We will serve lunch at Our Daily Bread from 11am-1pm.

Worship & Tech Team

"I get excited that I am able to express my love, and praise our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through another passion of mine - music! I also love to see the congregation worship alongside us, and see the Holy Spirit move through the service!" ~ Shelby

Right now God is moving and we are seeing some amazing things happen within the Worship & Tech Ministry of Shawnee Alliance Church. As a member of the worship team you get to experience this every time you serve. As we build friendships through our time together, grow our spiritual walk in devotional time, and enjoy leading Sunday morning worship together, Holy Spirit is moving us along. Our desire is to put all of our focus on Jesus and let Him lead.

If you are interested in being a part of this transformative ministry, please fill out an application by clicking the button below to get started.

Life Transformation Tools

Summertime can mean slowing down and taking vacations or fitting in sports and exciting trips with the kids. This can also be a great time to focus on deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ. Our God is fully present in every part of our lives. As we continue to focus on Him daily, He continues to love us and bring healing and freedom to our lives.

How is God calling you to go deeper with Him this summer?

Serving Spotlight

Shawnee Alliance loves to see our students (both current and graduated) plugged into ministry events! Check out the updates below from Emma and Payton!

Emma Rex

Beulah Beach Overnight Camp Counselor

I am currently spending my summer serving hundreds of families and campers at Beulah Beach. I don't take this opportunity lightly. Here are a few of the things we are excited for this summer:

Bell Ringing - Beulah Beach exists to engage guests to encounter Jesus Christ. Some have said, "Even though God doesn't speak any louder at Beulah, I tend to hear him better." Hundreds of campers ring the bell each summer as an indication that they encountered Jesus and said YES to Him. We celebrate each and every person who rings the bell. Would you pray that I would have an opportunity to lead someone to Jesus this summer?

Life-Long Staff Friends - I have already had the opportunity to get to know some of my teammates for the summer. They challenge and encourage me to be more Christ-like every day. I believe the friendships I make and the people that I will get to serve alongside will shape me in ways I haven't yet seen! Would you pray for a summer full of unity and love for our staff?

Making Memories All Summer Long - At camp, we are able to make countless memories with staff and campers. Camp is a great place to show future generations that you can love God and have fun at the same time! Our staff hopes to show campers what it is like to have a deep, meaningful relationships with Jesus and live in that freedom. Would you pray for health and safety at camp so that we can make awesome memories all summer long?

Leave an Impact That Lasts Forever - I chose Beulah because I believe that in just one summer's work, God can use me to make an impact that lasts forever. In many ways, I am the sum of my influences. I have had individuals impact my life and now their fingerprints will be all over everything I get to be a part of this summer. I trust that as God works, our campers will become difference-makers, and God will expand our impact through them as these same campers live impactful lives for Jesus.

Many of you have already had an impact on my life, and it will be evident in how I serve this summer. Thank you! I also want to simply invite you to continue to leave that impact in my ministry this summer. You can do that through prayer or by giving financially (see below). We know God will supply our every need through your generosity. If you choose to give, please include my name in the notes section so I can be sure to say thank you!

How You Can Pray:

  • Staff Unity
  • Energy to Serve
  • Health and Safety
  • Bell Ringers
  • That the glory will be to God

How You Can Give:

  • Visit bbeach.org/staffgiving
  • Checks can be written to Beulah Beach with the memo Staff Support and sent to 6101 W. Lake Rd. Vermilion, OH 44089

Thank you for planting the seeds of my faith and for leading me here. I have loved calling Shawnee Alliance my church home. Please be praying!

Payton Richards

Beulah Beach T-Crew

I am looking forward to spending much of my time at Beulah Beach this summer! I am working as one of the T-Crew - a group of junior and senior high school girls who run activities with the Crew, in addition to working in the kitchen, Snak Shak, and our camp store “The Dock.”

This experience allows me to get into the Beulah Beach culture, work in several areas, and be challenged spiritually all summer long. I've been attending Beulah Beach as a camper for 11 years, and I have never felt closer to Jesus than when I'm here. I love this camp because it is a place where you can feel so at home and accepted no matter who you are or what your life outside of camp is like. It's so beautiful here and so full of the love of Jesus Christ!

Would you pray that I make lasting friendships, learn a lot, my faith is strengthened, and that I get to make as big of an impact on these awesome campers as Beulah Beach has made on me?

If you're interested in donating to help provide for some of my financial needs this summer, you can visit bbeach.org/staffgiving and write my name in the notes section.

Thank you for your help as I follow God's leading in my interactions with the staff and campers this summer!

Payton

Prayer Update

Join with us in prayer! Here are 7 simple ways to ask God to move in the lives of those we know are still lost in darkness:

  1. Pray for God to open their eyes so they may turn from darkness to light and receive forgiveness of sins. (Acts 26:18)
  2. Pray for blinded minds. God can move in the most difficult of circumstances. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
  3. Pray that God would touch your heart to long for the salvation of those around you. (Romans 10:1)
  4. Pray that God would show you how to partner with Him to help people draw closer to Him. (Luke 19:10)
  5. Never in history were there more people in need of Jesus. Pray for those God is putting in the paths of the unsaved to speak life to them in Jesus' name. (Matthew 9:37-38)
  6. Many have heard the truth but have turned away. Pray for the prodigals to turn back to Him. (Luke 15: 11-13, 20)
  7. God is always on time. Wait patiently upon Him and be persistent and faithful in prayer. (2 Peter 3:9)

Community Serving Opportunities

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Kids benefit from the influence of caring adults. They are more likely to avoid risky behaviors and to focus on academics. Today’s youth face a variety of challenges. A Big Brother or Big Sister can help them navigate these challenges and achieve their full potential!

Since 1985, Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. We make meaningful, monitored matches that have a direct and lasting effect between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6-18 in communities across Ohio.

Whether you get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters as a donor, potential Big Brother or Big Sister, partner, advocate, or family member, you have the power to change a child’s future for the better. Click below for more information or to take the first step to inspire potential by volunteering or donating.

Volunteer Guardianship Info Sessions

Court-sworn guardians are needed to make decisions related to social services, housing and healthcare for individuals unable to make those decisions solely by themselves. Crime Victim Services will hold information sessions from 12-1 pm on June 22 and July 26 for those who are interested in learning more about guardianship and their volunteer program. To attend, please register below.

Guardian Volunteer Andrew Carey explains that the purpose of a guardian is “to help out someone who can’t do some things for themselves, and to make sure that their life and living conditions are as good as possible.” Volunteers don’t deal with finances, but focus on advocating for their protected person’s quality of life, and ensuring their safety and dignity.

If you have any questions, please contact Elysia or Katie at Crime Victim Services (419-222-8666 or cvsguardian@crimevictimservices.org).
