The Florida Institute of Technology has introduced a new policy to reward students who maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Through the upcoming weeks, all students, including transfer students, who meet this requirement will be given a free bushel of puppies in recognition for their hard work.
The idea, developed in partnership with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), was created as an alternative method of rewarding students who the university believes have proven to be responsible students and role models.
Robyn Tapley, the director of Counseling and Psychological Services, believes this decision will be a watershed moment in all of academia.
The puppies provided to students will vary by breed, but students with higher GPAs can expect entire litters of the same breed as their reward. Aerospace senior, Chester O’Shaughnessy was among the first to receive his puppies due to maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
“Dude, these things are frickin’ cute. This is sick yo,” said O’Shaughnessy. “So, I guess I need to buy some food or something now, huh?”
The logistics of housing and dispersing the bundles of unadulterated adorable, will be handled jointly by ResLife and the Facilities Department. Under the supervision of Facilities Manager Holly Chichester, the puppies will be housed and fed in the shipping warehouse before they are handed over to ResLife personnel for delivery to the students. Deliveries will occur between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to ensure the majority of students have returned from their classes.
The campus Housing Department would also like to remind all residential students that their housing deposit will not be refunded if any damages or stains are found. The Panther Market, located outside the cafeteria, will now stock industrial sized containers of Resolve for students as well.
