MEAL PLAN KEY
"Meals" or "Swipes" are used to access Bethune Annex and Blackburn Cafés.
Dining Dollars work just like a debit card. Running low on meal swipes? No problem - you may use Dining Dollars to pay the door rate. Additionally, Dining Dollars may be used any HU Dining, on-campus retail location like our coffee shop, food court or convenience stores!
Dietary Needs
Allergens and dietary restrictions can sometimes make meals challenging and HU Dining is always happy to help serve as a resource. We will work to accommodate any special dietary needs.
In Bethune Annex & Blackburn Café Dining Halls look for our menu identifiers, which outline nutritional information, ingredients and to help easily display vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and Mindful options.
Mindful by Sodexo
MINDFUL creates meals that balance nutrition with enticing flavors to create an indulgent way to enjoy healthy eating. Our executive chefs and registered dietitians work together to create an exciting collection of Mindful recipes. We focus on transparency of ingredients, delicious food, satisfying portions and clarity so that making Mindful choices become second nature.
Plant-Based Menus
For students who love to plan out their meals, the Bite app is a perfect tool to use! Within Bite, you can create customized meal plans based on the menu for today, complete with nutritional information and ingredients.
Bethune Annex and Blackburn Café have a wide range of options, including a plant-based station with hot, ready-to-eat meals, cold-bar, vegan desserts, and a build-your-own noodle bowl station featuring soy nuggets and tofu. Our deli also has plant-based options such as Daiya Cheese, roasted vegetables, and plant-based meat alternatives.
Our retail locations also serve plant-based options. From the build your own pasta bowl at Pandini's to the Falafel Naanarito at the Halal Shack, there are plenty of delicious plant-based selections for our guests. We've also partnered with NuVegan, a local, black-owned business, for an express location in the Blackburn Student Center. At NuVegan, you can find delicious plant-based twist on Soul Food favorites!
Halal Diet
In 2019, HU Dining partnered with the Halal Shack, a restaurant inspired by New York City street food, to bring locally sourced ingredients and humanely treated meat and vegan/vegetarian options to campus. Students can expect delicious flavors when they visit the Halal Shack!
For our resident dining students who observe Ramadan, they will be able to use a Meal Swipe and take a box of food back to their dorms to enjoy for Iftar.
Gluten-Free
For our gluten-free students, we have options that are available upon request at our dining halls. We offer gluten-free items, such as:
- Baked Goods
- Assorted Breads
- Cereals
- Desserts
- Dressings
- Pasta
