SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

2021 SEASON LEADERS

Jeronimo Leguizamon was selected as a 2021 NAIA All-America honorable mention. He was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year and led the nation in scoring with 25 goals and shots taken with 130. Leguizamon also earned AAC Golden Boot honors and a spot on the AAC All-Conference first team. Leguizamon tallied a career-high and set a new school record with most goals scored in a game with five in Point's win over Johnson (Tenn.) on Oct. 9. Leguizamon was the first player in Point men's soccer history to garner NAIA Player of the Week recognition on Nov. 2, after scoring seven goals in two matches and setting a new school record for most goals scored in a single season (22). Leguizamon led the Point men's soccer team to its first NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship appearance after tying with Tennessee Wesleyan in the AAC Championship and defeating the Bulldogs in penalty kicks, 5-3. Leguizamon connected for Point's fifth PK to earn the win. His efforts in postseason play earned him the title of tournament MVP.

Julio Gomes finished his collegiate career as one of the most well-decorated goalies in men's soccer program history. He finished with the highest save percentage (.870) and is second in career wins (12) and single-season wins (11). Gomes became the first-ever person in program history to get named national defensive player of the week and the second individual to earn a national player of the week recognition. Gomes earned All-tournament honors for his efforts in the AAC tournament that helped lead the men's soccer team to the program's first NAIA National Championship appearance. Gomes finished his career with 95 saves, only allowed 22 goals, and had a save percentage of .834. Gomes was named to the AAC All-Tournament team for his efforts in the AAC tournament.

Lorenzo Delvecchio earned second-team All-AAC recognition for the second time in his career and served as team captain in his senior campaign. Delvecchio helped guide Point's midfield and recorded one goal, two assists and 22 shot attempts.

Facundo Palacio earned All-Tournament recognition for his efforts in postseason play. He finished the season with three goals, two assists and eight points. He scored the golden goal in Point's overtime win against then-ranked No. 9 Milligan on Sept. 19.

Julien Sagnol earned All-Tournament recognition for his efforts in postseason play. Sagnol anchored Point's defense and scored Point's first goal in the AAC Championship game.

Pablo Sanz led Point with 10 assists which tied the program record for most assists in a season. The sophomore also recorded two goals.

GOALS, THEMES AND FOCUS FOR THE 2022 SEASON

STAYING FOCUSED- The Skyhawks' success last season has helped keep this season's group focused and determined to prepare for the season ahead.

PLAYING AS A TEAM- The Skyhawks look to carry over into the season the intensity and chemistry demonstrated during preseason camp.

"NOT SATISFIED"- Point's phrase this season. A reminder to not be complacent and continue to work and improve.

DOUBLE THE ICE- The goal for the Skyhawks this season is to return to the NAIA National Championship stage.

ON THE PITCH THIS SEASON

  • Point opens the season with four nonconference matches before opening AAC play at home against St. Andrews on Sept. 10.
  • The Skyhawks will have 13 AAC games with the final regular season match of the season being at Bluefield on Oct. 29.
  • Senior Day will be on Saturday, Oct. 22, which is also Homecoming.
