Autumn Term 1a week 2

We had our celebration assembly on Monday. Our Star of the Week was Charlie. Oscar was Star of the Week in Year 5. Krystal was in Golden Book for excellent maths.

Reading is the most important thing we do every day. The children are expected to record their reading on Seesaw, every evening.

The Reading Group are reading Esio Trot by Roald Dahl.

We planted a sunflower seed last term and we now have a beautiful, yellow sunflower.

We talked about the late Queen Elizabeth 11. She is lying in state in Westminster Hall. We acted out walking past her coffin. We bowed our heads and said goodbye. Then we gave 3 cheers for the new King Charles 111.

In English we are starting to write an information text. Our story book ‘Circle’ is about migrating birds called Bar-Tailed Godwits.

The children enjoyed using iPads to find out information.

The birds fly from Alaska to China then to Australia and back again. We found these places on our large, world map in the hall

The handwriting in our group is amazing. You are all superstars! Well done. We love using Magic Link letters and joins.

In spellings this week we have been looking at suffixes. Words with ‘s and ‘es’ on the end.

In maths we have been looking at fractions. We folded paper to show different fractions. Some children identified equivalent fractions.

In maths we also looked at subtraction. Some started using vertical subtraction and others used 1, 2 or 3 tricky columns. Krystal was using 6 digit numbers and decimal points. Fantastic work from all the children.

School is closed on Monday 19 September for the late Queen Elizabeth 11 funeral.

We are back in school on Tuesday 20 September.
