Part 1
General Challenge
Energy is a necessity of life for most. However, while some are discovering new and more efficient ways to use energy, there are still 1,201,000,000 people without electricity roaming the globe today.
Additional Sub-challenges
Providing sufficient energy to meet the requirements of the growing world population with rising living standards will require advances like never before in energy supply and efficiency.
Finding a way to make the energy we create every lasting through different techniques like recycling.
So where are are we struggling to produce sufficient numbers of energy? And how can we produce the numbers we need?
For example, an incandescent bulb wastes 95% of the electricity passing through it, converting that energy to heat rather than light. They are cheaper to buy and more expensive to own.
Why are we not fixing these problems immediately?
Because the discounted value of future benefits versus current benefits are not great enough. Also, there is evidence proven that we are biased towards short-term thinking with the potential prosperity.
On top of creating more efficient energy, in the future, companies are working to find ways to use renewable sources of energy. Below are some examples:
Part 3
Throughout the globe, everyone is looking for reliable, renewable energy sources. With this, there would be an end to the energy crisis that happen in the world, and the energy produced would reduce the majority of the waste and improve the overall power. In Nigeria specifically, the Energy Commission of Nigeria started a three-day Capacity Building Training on Energy and Environment to brainstorm about the technology suitable for the actualisation of a renewable energy, which would reduce waste and improve power in the country.
"The renewable energy project would soon be launched in the country and that it was imperative to train efficient manpower as pilots for the expected project." -Prof Eli Jidere Bala speaking at the opening of the workshop at the University of Benin, Benin City
