1. Introduction
Before starting I would like to tell you the reason why I am doing this, I am doing this project since I want to help you kids change your room and for you to be ready for your teenage years!

2. Importance of interior design
According to 'Adolescent self expression'
- Through exploring self expression, tweens can find their identity
- Tweens often use creativity to explore their identity
- By expressing themselves they are forming their unique and individual identity
This topic is significantly important to me because:
- I love my room and I feel like if I had to share my room or didn’t have a room my life would be different.
- I wouldn't have a place to go when I needed some time alone, I wouldn’t be able to express my hobbies.
- I couldn’t have a place where I could invite friends over without being ashamed.
- This is why my goal is to make a guide which can change this and give the kids an opportunity to express themselves through art in their room.
- Art being design in personal and cultural expression. I want the kids to have a great experience and be proud of their room.

3. Why are you changing your room?
Why do you want to change your room? What gave you the idea? Was it all of a sudden or have you been thinking about it for a while?
I would like you to think about the change you want to make and to think about why you want to make the change. Is it because your friends have done it? Is it because you want to do it?
Now that you have done the small mind map I have a few things I would like you to think about. Are you making the change because of someone? If your classmates of friends all have this thing and you don't? Cause you don't have to change for anyone, be yourself!
4. Budgeting and DIY Ideas
Now that you might have a stronger idea of what you are going to do, we should get into the money side of things. To be able to really talk to your parents and have self advocacy you need to know your idea in and out so lets talk about the money.
Depending on your idea you might need some extra money from your parents, in this case you first consider different ways to earn some money that you will be able to put towards the final product.
- ask around to see if anyone needs a babysitter or dog walker
- ask your parents if they could pay you a bit for doing some jobs in the house
- saving up money you earn and keeping it safe till you have enough
All of these are some different options on how to budget, as well as thinking about the amount of money. Let's think about some alternative ways of achieving your project, how about some good DIYS?

If you dont think you can make your project as a DIY then check out some amazon to see if they have some things, for example; if you want to have glow in the dark stars of other small bedroom accessories.
Think about some simple changes that can be done instead of such a big change, what about changing the 'theme' of your room. By adding small accessories in your desired colour you can create a different atmosphere. Did you know that?!
If you feel like your room is too small then how about you add some mirrors, mirror help create the feeling that the room is bigger without changing the actual size of the room!
5. Self Advocacy
Now that's a fancy word! Let me break it down, self advocacy means that you are able to speak up for yourself and use your strength to help make your voice be heard. So in this case it is being able to really explain your idea so that you can convince your parents!
According to 'Understood' mother help encourage self advocacy in their children by encouraging them to talk to their mothers. So in this case cause this website is for you and not really your parents, after researching some more
I would recommend that you take responsibility of your actions and that you start to become more independent meaning you do things more by yourself instead of always asking your parents.
This can help them take you more seriously when you talk to them!
You can also ask to help your parents decide on big family decisions becasue it will make you seem even more grown up!
Now before you talk to your parents, here is a list of small things you can do to help convince your parents! (Girls Life)
- keep a clean room - makes them see that your taking responsibility of your own space
- help around the house
- mention that your thinking about making a change to your room (but not directly)
6. Talking to your parents
For this next part you are going to want to be an expert on your idea so how about you draw a picture or even make a presentation! Here is a template!
If you want to be extra prepared make a plan of the money you will spend!
