The Trans Am Class
The one that started it all, TA is the series' fastest and most powerful class, with a heritage dating back to 1966. With more chassis builders innovating within TA, the iconic class continues to evolve. Since the new Pirelli 18-inch racing slicks made a wildly successful debut in 2022, the Trans Am class breaks track record after track record, making it the world's fastest GT racecar.
Propelled by monstrous 850+ horsepower V-8 engines emitting the iconic roar found only in Trans Am, the TA class is a compelling racing platform.
While countless other formulas have come and gone, the TA class remains, still as commanding as it was in 1966. It is a testament to its ability to set the pace as the ultimate road racing machine.
TA cars are the unapologetic culmination of unadulterated power and a raw driving experience that pushes competitors' skill and courage to the very limit.
Without the electronic driver aids, TA class cars are reliant on their pilot and stand capable of putting on a show unlike any other in road racing.
CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series
Since the first one rolled off the assembly line, the battle for supremacy in the muscle car segment has raged on between the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger.
The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli puts that battle front and center with the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.
Featuring premier road racing talents who are proving to be the future of motorsports, the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series is one of the hottest properties in road racing, combining the prowess of a purpose-built racing platform, 525-plus horsepower engines and the unmistakable silhouettes of today’s muscle cars.
The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli assures the muscle car icons of the automotive world will continue to ignite the passion of muscle car enthusiasts worldwide. Trans Am is America’s Road Racing Series, and these TA2 machines are genuinely America’s cars.
These machines are well tailored to the frantic conditions of sprint-format racing and are subjected to some of the most rigorous technical inspections and cost control measures in the racing industry. The result is some of the tightest and most exciting racing in North America.
Xtreme Grand Touring
Debuting in 2020, XGT is intended as a place to race formerly homologated pro-level vehicles that have advanced aerodynamics and driver aids.
XGT fields advanced factory racecars that originally raced in International GT3, Ferrari Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo, as well as vehicles eligible to race in the SCCA Club GT1-ST class, equipped with sophisticated aerodynamics and electronics.
FIA GT3 racecars are among the most technically interesting racecars in motorsports. Most series offer these cars a narrow window of eligibility, even though they have plenty of racing life left in them.
XGT was created to give 2016 and earlier GT3 cars the opportunity to show their amazing performance potential.
Additionally, the XGT class welcomes cars from other series with advanced performance potential equivalent to GT3. Although the XGT Class is focused on using advanced aerodynamics and electronic driver aids, the rules allow vehicles with higher levels of power, torque and moderate levels of aerodynamics to be used to make a competitive package.
Super Grand Touring
Sports Car Racing Unleashed. The SGT Class is a collection of high-performance production racecars from around the world. The class pits American powerhouses against European exotics in a contest of global proportions.
From the pure strength of the Dodge Viper to the finesse of the BMW M3, SGT provides an intriguing contest that mixes strategies and approaches of a wide variety of cars.
Super GT brings together sports cars, grand touring machines, performance coupes and sedans under a single banner. From machinery constructed in a one-man shop to pro-built cars, there’s a place for it in SGT.
The Super GT class celebrates the innovation and ingenuity of race teams and the uniqueness of each car model. The class offers and enforces a performance baseline, but the path that teams and tuner shops take to achieve those goals is up to them.
Limited Prep
Originally, Trans Am stood as a production-based competition, bringing together the best offerings manufacturers could muster and pitting them against one another in a competition unlike anything that came before — a competition that ultimately set the stage for all production-based racing that followed.
Today, that spirit lives on in the GT class , which features a variety of production-based racecars utilizing as many OEM production parts as possible. Concentrating on limited-prep specifications, the GT class is competitive, cost-effective and designed for club racing crossover.
GT stands as a proving ground for drivers yearning for the thrill of racing in a pro racing environment minus the skyrocketing costs.
The Pro/Am Challenge
For road racers wanting to take the next step toward pro-level competition.
Drivers throughout history transition from SCCA club racing to Trans Am stardom. One of the most notable crossover drivers was SCCA Hall of Fame driver Paul Newman. The four-time Runoffs Champion and President’s Cup winner went on to win multiple Trans Am races.
The Pro/Am Challenge allows SCCA road racers to compete in Trans Am using their same SCCA road racing trim, which simplifies the back and forth transition between the SCCA Road Racing program and Trans Am.
Pro/Am Challenge racers pick six races of their choosing from the National or Western Trans Am Championships, thus creating their own custom six-race championship.
The Pro/Am Challenge debuted in 2021, with Oscar Teran taking TA class honors, and Sam Mayer winning the TA2 Pro/Am division.
Pro/Am: TA2
Beginning in 2024, the TA2 Pro/Am Championship will be based on a driver’s nine highest finishes over the course of the season. Points will be awarded to Pro/Am Championship drivers separately, but under the same structure as the current Pro point system, with a maximum of 103 points for a win, and bonus points available for qualifying in the top five and leading laps.
The 2024 Pro/Am program will also benefit from increased media exposure via its on-board camera coverage. One on-board camera at each event will be dedicated to Pro/Am coverage, with the camera assigned to a different Pro/Am competitor each weekend. This camera coverage will be included in the MAVTV broadcast, as well as the live stream coverage available on social media.
TA2 Pick Six Challenge
While the TA2 Pro/Am Championship allows drivers to tally points from their best nine finishes of the season, the Pro/Am Pick Six Challenge provides TA2 competitors with a different contest aligned with the current Pro/Am format, allowing them to participate in a maximum of six races throughout the year. The Pro/Am Pick Six Challenge competitor who accumulates the most points throughout their six-race run will be recognized at the Trans Am Gala and awarded a trophy.
The West's best tracks and racers
The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli's Western Championship debuted in 2017 to ensure that Trans Am was truly a coast-to-coast competition. Comprised of the same classes as the National Championship, the Western Championship consists of six event weekends at some of the most iconic tracks west of the Mississippi, such as Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway. Every event weekend is a doubleheader consisting of two races, with the exception of the season finale at Circuit of The Americas, which is a combined event with the National Championship that consistently boasts the largest fields of the season.
A world-class media platform
Trans Am offers fans a variety of ways to keep up with the action.
It begins with free livestream coverage that is as close to the action as being there, and is rounded out by a robust television broadcast package and global distribution.
The livestream consists of pre-race fan walks, interviews from the race grid and continues to the non-stop race action. It culminates with post-race celebrations, interviews and race analysis.
Trans Am's live stream coverage is available on the series' YouTube channel, @TheTransAmSeries.
A Robust Television Package
In 2024, MAVTV will cover every single Trans Am Series National Championship event LIVE on its FAST channels and linear cable channel.
In addition to airing live, highlight shows of both the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race and TA/XGT/SGT/GT race will air the Thursday after each event at 8:00 p.m. ET and 9:00 p.m. ET, respectively, in a programming block dubbed Trans Am Thursdays.
MAVTV also offers support of the series through its vast and growing social media platforms and other complementary programming such as Road to Glory, SpeedFreaks and On The Rise.
