Men's Cross Country Places 2nd at Suffolk Invitational, Morris Paces Meet Record

Two weeks removed from posting a course record at Pineland Farms in the State of Maine Meet, Tyler Morris led the Mules and the rest of the field at the Suffolk Invitational. The junior from Weston, Mass. finished the 8k course in 24:38, averaging under five minutes/mile, 45-seconds ahead of the runner-up. The time is a new meet record.

The Mules finished 2nd in the 23-team field behind only Dartmouth, and inches ahead of Harvard. Colby placed five runners in the top-25, with Ben Mellor rounding out the top-10 with a time of 26:04.

Colby is back in action in two weeks for the NESCAC Championship Meet.

Tyler Morris set his second meet record in as many tries, winning the 8k Suffolk Invitational in 24:38.

Women's Cross Country 2nd out of 16 Teams at Suffolk Invitational

The Women's Cross Country team trailed only Wellesley College at the Suffolk Invitational Saturday. Colby's Lindsay Michels continued her phenomenal first-year season by earning the bronze medal, placing third in 23:20 over the 6K distance.

Claire Beebe and Meghan Garrett ran into the top-20, finishing 12th and 17th respectively. The Mules held a slim margin over the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College, out-pacing the latter by a mere two points.

Colby is back in action in two weeks for the NESCAC Championship Meet.

Meghan Garrett was the third finisher for the Mules at the Suffolk Invitational, placing 17th and helping the Mules earn 2nd place in the 16-team meet.

Football Tops Middlebury 28-14, First Time Since 2010

Scoring 14 points in the third quarter and 14 more in the fourth, Colby erased Middlebury's 7-0 halftime lead and outpaced the Panthers 28-14. The victory marked the first time Colby defeated Middlebury since 2010.

Led by a strong defense that bent but never broke (Middlebury posted almost 500 yards of offense), Colby managed to stay close long enough for big plays to tip in their direction. Entering the fourth quarter tied 14-14, quarterback Matt Hersch connected for two long touchdown scores on the first two possessions of the quarter. The first was a 60-yard deep strike to first-year wide receiver Jack Sawyer. The next was a slant pass to Matt Panker, who slipped a tackle and ran the rest of the way untouched for an 89-yard score.

  • Hersch ended the day 14-19 for 241 yds and two scores.
  • Panker's score was not the longest in school history, as Dick Robbat and Bill George connected for 94 yards against Bates in 1963.
  • Sawyer now ranks 9th in NESCAC in receiving with 16 receptions for 302 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

Colby is now 2-3, ranked 5th in NESCAC. They host the 5-0 Trinity Bantams next weekend.

Sophomore linebacker EJ Brister collected a career-high nine tackles against Middlebury.

Women's Crew Places 6th at the Annual Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

Women's Crew opened their fall season Sunday at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The women's Varsity-8 finished in 6th place out of 18 teams with a time of 16:59, 14 seconds out of 3rd place. WPI won the event with a time of 16:32, and Middlebury was the only NESCAC school ahead of the Mules, edging Colby by a mere eight seconds.

The Mules will reload for the Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass. next weekend.

Men's Soccer Tops Middlebury and MMA for a 2-1 Week

First-year Mario Simoes tallied a hat trick Tuesday against Maine Maritime, all in the first half, en route to a 9-2 victory over the Mariners. The nine goals marks the most since NESCAC established a Championship format in 2000, with the next-highest tally coming in an 8-0 victory over Thomas College in 2006. The most goals scored by a Colby team (11) came in 1963 against Brandeis.

On Saturday, the Mules celebrated Senior Day and posted a 2-1 win over Middlebury behind Simoes' fourth goal of the week and Ethan Franco's seventh goal of the season.

The Cardinals of Wesleyan University came to visit Sunday and escaped with a 2-1 win. Franco scored his third goal of the week (one against MMA) and his 8th goal of the year. He is now tied with teammate Josh Rubin atop the NESCAC leaderboards, each with eight tallies on the season. The next closest player in the league has six.

Colby is now 6-6-1 on the season, ranked 7th in NESCAC.

Field Hockey Tops Husson Midweek, Celebrates Senior Weekend

On Tuesday, Colby traveled to Bangor to take on the Husson Eagles. Behind a goal and an assist by junior Kaitlyn Smith, the Mules triumphed 2-1.

The #1-ranked Middlebury Panthers came to town on Saturday, defeating the Mules 4-1 to remain undefeated. Colby junior Jackie Hill scored her second goal of the season to get Colby on the board.

On Sunday, Colby hosted Wesleyan and celebrated senior day, honoring three women who will be playing in their final games this season. The energy stayed high and senior Sally Cassidy scored her third goal of the season to tie the game 2-2 just after halftime. The Cardinals were able to answer back at the onset of the fourth quarter, and behind two defensive saves were able to secure the win 3-2.

Volleyball Takes Trinity to 5, Tops Suffolk in Tri-Match

Playing in its first 5-set match of the season Friday night, Colby pushed it to the limit against Trinity. After taking the second and third sets, the Mules were edged out in the final two (25-23, 15-13), and the Bantams held on for a 3-2 win.

Colby traveled to Emerson Saturday for a tri-match with the hosts and Suffolk University. Finding another 5-set match in the opener with Suffolk, Colby this time came out on top 3-2. In the second match of the series, Emerson showed why they are one of the powers in the East, topping Colby 3-0.

Colby is now 9-8 on the season, ranking 8th in NESCAC.

Sam Schultz had seven kills, 10 digs, and added a service ace in the victory over Suffolk.

Mules up Early on Panthers, Fall to Middlebury, Wesleyan

Lucy Robinson's first collegiate goal helped Colby jump out to an early lead against Middlebury on Saturday. The Panthers answered on the first possession of the second half, and the score was knotted at one to force overtime. An extra period wasn't enough, and in the second overtime Middlebury was able to find the back of the net to take the win 2-1. Colby goaltender Ashley Boardman had a season-high nine saves on the day.

On Sunday Colby hosted #18 Wesleyan. The 9-1 Cardinals showed their strength with a 5-0 victory. Goalkeeper Maxine Jamison recorded six saves in relief.

Colby is now 3-6-2, ranked 11th in NESCAC.

Sophomore Lucy Robinson opened the scoring Saturday against Middlebury with her first goal of her collegiate career.

Men's Crew Places 14th at Snake Regatta

Men's Crew opened their fall season Sunday at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The men's Varsity-8 finished in 14th place out of 22 teams with a time of 15:22, behind NESCAC schools Middlebury, Williams, and Trinity. Marist won the event with a time of 13:48.

The Mules will reload for the Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass. next weekend.

Golf Hosts CBB at Waterville Country Club

The Colby Golf team finished their season on Saturday, playing against Bates and Bowdoin at Waterville Country Club for the annual CBB title. Bowdoin narrowly edged out Bates and Colby, but it was a Mule who was at the top of the individual leaderboard. Nolan Burke capped a stellar season shooting 73, good for first place.

Ryan Santoro finished 8th at the CBB, shooting a 78.
