Minera School Newyddion Friday 28th October/Dydd Gwener Hydref 28

Have a lovely half term break. Don't forget we re-open on Monday 7th November.
'Love Your Neighbour As Yourself' Matthew 22:39
'Love the Lord Your God' Mark 12:30

God will guide us to be:

Kind

In Collective Worship on Monday morning, we launched the T4U 2022 Shoebox appeal. This is a charity that Minera School has supported for many years.

For further information, please visit https://teams4u.com/shoebox-appeal-2022/

Children will have brought home an information leaflet this week. This is a link to the leaflet if you don't receive one. https://teams4u.com/wpcms/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/T4U-Leaflet-Final-Version-2022.pdf

You will be able to drop off your box at School from 7th November until 11th November.

We understand that it is a busy and expensive time of year, we hope as many of our families can support this really good cause.

Safe

An important part of keeping safe is learning how to manage risks; Foundation Phase have been doing exactly that this week during outdoor learning!

Valued

Golden Book

We value our children's ideas, opinions and creativity. Today, we celebrated all of the children who made it into the Golden Book this week during our Celebration Worship.

Birthdays

We have lots of children celebrating their birthdays during the month of November:

  • Daniel
  • Benji
  • Razey
  • Janvi
  • Jake
  • Layla
Pupil Voice

All of the pupil voice groups have been working very hard to improve our school.

Digital Leaders

Our digital leaders took part in an online training event hosted by Adobe. They learned lots about using Adobe tools as they part in an anti-bullying project. They are now ready to teach other classes after half-term.

Eco Group

On Friday 21st October, members of our school's Eco Group picked litter from around Minera. They managed to fill three bin bags with litter! Da iawn pawb!

Look at our wonderful week of learning. We are very proud of our children for trying their best and not giving up.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all our fantastic runners who did themselves and our school proud today at the Wrexham Cross Country Competition.

Spooky Disco

Everyone enjoyed our Spooky Disco yesterday. Lots of great dancing and scary costumes. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!

The Friends of Minera made £127 from entry fees and selling refreshments. Thank you for your support.

Coedpoeth Library Visit

On Friday 28th October 2022, all children from Year 1 to 6 visited Coedpoeth library. They were able to take out a book each, which they can enjoy in school. We will swap the books around class and look forward to returning to the library again in the Spring Term. The children had an enjoyable time and behaved themselves wonderfully. We hope they enjoy their new books!

Other News

After School Football Club

Children can take part in an after school football club Tuesdays with Mr Barnes until 4:15 p.m. The club is for boys and girls and will take place on the grass. Children will need a full sports kit. Football boots can be worn if children have them (trainers are fine if not) and we recommend shin pads are worn.

There will be sessions for children in Year 4, 5 and 6 on:

  • Tuesday 8th November
  • Tuesday 15th November
  • Tuesday 22nd November

Sessions for children in Years 1, 2 and 3 will be on:

  • Tuesday 29th November
  • Tuesday 6th December

If you wish for your child to join the sessions, then you must complete the consent form here first. Children will need to be collected from the side gate (between the hall and the car park) of the main school yard at 4:15 p.m. If children are going to Minera After School Club at 4:15 p.m. please make sure they are booked in.

Reading at home

Reading with, or encouraging your child to read regularly at home is the best way you can support us in school. We expect children to read regularly (at least four to five times a week) and all children have a school book to take home with them. Children will also read regularly in school.

Children in Year 3 to 6 and their parents can now use Boom Reader to log reading. Boom Reader is a digital reading record that will allow us in school, you at home and children to log their reading. There are two ways of logging reading for your child. You can either use the web version or download the app. There is also a separate app for pupils to log their own reading if appropriate. If you would prefer to continue using the paper reading records then that is fine, just keep logging reading here and we will do the same in school. In Foundation Phase, we will continue to use the paper reading records to log children’s reading.

Remembrance

When we return to school after half term, we will be thinking about Remembrance. On Friday 11th November, we will be observing a one minute silence.

During the week, we will also be selling on behalf of the Royal British Legion, poppies and other items. Children will be able to purchase these during the week for a small donation.

Year 3/4 Swimming

After half term, Year 3/4 will have six swimming lessons at Ysgol Clywedog every Friday morning.

They will swim on the following dates:

  • Friday 11th November
  • Friday 18th November
  • Friday 25th November
  • Friday 2nd December
  • Friday 9th December
  • Friday 16th December

We will require a £2:00 voluntary contribution to cover the cost of the transport. This can be paid via Parent Pay.

*Please note we had originally scheduled Year 3/4 Class Worship on 18th November. Due to change in swimming time this will now take place during the spring term*
