A busy and happy week Nursery spring term, week 2

The theme of this week has been kindness. I am bursting with pride at how much kindness nursery have shown each other. We have started a star chart and I definitely didn't buy enough stars to last more than a few weeks...

We are getting really good at sitting, listening and joining in with class discussions.

Many of our activities have been themed around animals this week as we start our new Mantle of the Expert story next week. I wonder if you can take a guess at what our new jobs will be...?

Comparing, sorting, and generally thinking about animals.

We seem to have come back after Christmas full of intrigue about maths. The children have been really keen on exploring shape using the large 3D foam blocks and the smaller wooden blocks. Also, we have discovered a shared passion for Numberblocks (all episodes are available on iPlayer) these have been key to opening up our discussions about numbers this week.

Constructing irregular patterns.
Exploring how shapes can fit together.
Counting and using cubes to match our learning from Numberblocks.
Investigating the 'twoness' of two.
Tracing and writing the numeral 2 as a warm up.
Another collection of representations of 2.

I've observed lots of great role-play and in depth conversations in the home corner this week. Our communication is coming on in leaps and bounds.

In our literacy work we have been learning how to recognise the difference between a letter and a word, and also a little about the letters that are special because they are in our names. Some children have chosen to experiment with writing their names. This is a focus for us this half term.

Slice of pizza anyone?
Busy cooking for his friends.
A beautiful T.
A clear L in the middle of the drawing of herself.
Super H's in different sizes.

... And not forgetting our play outside (we have been busy this week!). We are thinking about using our play to help strengthen our bodies and core muscles. Obstacle course anyone?

Building and climbing on the large foam blocks.
Rolling down the hill is very funny and makes us dizzy.
A moment together on the wobbly bridge.

And finally, we are learning to take photos using the iPads. I'm hoping that long term the children will be able to take photos of their learning and upload it to their seesaw accounts. Perhaps you can help at home by teaching your child how to take a photo on your phone. We got some hilarious ones today!

Thanks to all the parents that came to their child's assertive mentoring meeting this week, it was very good to be able to have a long chat with you all.
