UHS Hosts STEM Night with DuPont

Careers in STEM fields are among the highest paying and fastest growing in the world today! STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. This month our students had the opportunity to hear first hand from DuPont engineers and scientists what it's like to work in a STEM career field and how they can get there. Our students participated in STEM activities that provided hands-on and minds-on lessons. Making math and science both fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn.

behind the scenes

Copier and Printer Project

The Copier and printer project became a board goal for the 2019-20 school year. UCF contract came to an end in the summer of 2019. Toshiba won the business and we began our rollout during the summer months before school. Toshiba, with the technology department, rolled out 46 new multifunctional copier and printer devices. In addition, we removed 132 local HP printers! Fantastic work by all involved with the rollout and to our users of the product lowering our paper footprint!

Some of the changes that were made include - Centralized Printing Services, Badge Authentication Access, More color printing options, Consistent finishing options with all devices, Secured Printing Services

Thank you all for the dedication to the project to make it a smooth rollout. As always, if you run into issues you may contact your local technology folks or submit a helpdesk ticket.

tip of the month

Phishing - A war that we are all facing

Thank you all for the continued effort to not click or reply and to report phishing/spam emails. We are seeing a great trend in reporting and not biting on what are not real emails. In the coming month, you will receive more information on a security awareness video we will ask all staff to watch. This informative video will focus on some of the dangers we all face with security of our data and environments.

I would like to just remind all of you of a few things.

1- our email domain is UCFSD.NET If you receive an email from a domain other than ucfsd.net that claims to be one of our employees, do not click. You will want to get in touch with that person by emailing them via a new email, finding them to talk with them or call them on the phone.

2- our website domain is UCFSD.ORG. This domain will host all of our websites. Be aware of misspelled domain names such as UCFDS.ORG or UFCSD.ORG. Just one letter off can make a difference in clicking malware or our site.

3- Our logo is below. Be aware of fake logos such as University of Central Florida that share the same acronym as us.

Using Google Drive - The safest most secure place for your data

Did you know that Google keeps all revisions of your documents? Just one of the many benefits Google Drive offers us and our employees. We are registered as a Google Apps for Education district and entitled to the full suite of Google products. One of the products we are highlighting is Google Drive.

1- Google Drive is very secure. The product uses the latest SSL encryption to keep your files safe, no matter what device you use to access your information.

2- Google Drive backs up all your precious and important files.

3- Power search engine to search not only on words in the document name of contents but even a word that describes images.

For those that rely on USB drives or your local machine, please consider moving your information to google drive. The information is backed up, safe, and secure. In the event of a stolen or broken device, your data will be safe on Google Drive and no data loss!

For more information about google drive, submit a ticket to our technology group. https://helpdesk.ucfsd.org
