Candlebark Christmas Picnic:
Dear Candlebarkians,
It's getting closer to that "most wonderful time of the year" so we would like to invite you to the Candlebark-Christmas-Picnic. This is your chance to dust off those vocal cords and singalong with the students and teacher-band as we play Christmas songs and other singalong classics.
Please bring a picnic rug, a yummy picnic dinner and the festive spirit as we celebrate the end of the school year.
Date: Monday the 12th of December (with the 13th of December reserved as a back-up day in case of inclement weather.)
Time: 7pm for a 7:15pm start
Where: Candlebark - on the grassy area below the library - near the barn.
Parking: parking will be tight so please bunch up when parking
What to bring: a picnic rug, perhaps a picnic dinner and your singing voice.
On the afternoon of the picnic all students will go home on the bus, as normal, and return to school at 7pm with parents/carers.
Printed lyric booklets will be available on the night (so no excuses to not singš!)
See you at the picnic.
Cheers
Taran
Grade 6/7 Girls' Camp Wilsons Promontory:
Dreaming With 0ur Eyes Open - Bunjil:
Dreaming With Our Eyes Open was the inspiration for our First Nations week.
FIRST NATIONS STORYTELLING - BUNJIL
All classes looked at various interpretations of Bunjil - the huge Bruce Armstrong sculpture at Docklands, the architectural wonder of Bunjil Place in Narre Warren, a 3D-mapped projection on a kinetic sculpture at the Melbourne Museum with narration in part by Uncle Jack, plus an animation of the story of Bunjil. The students then drew their vision of Bunjil ā fantastic!
(15 pieces produced by students from all year levels)

Grade 2x Writing:
In Grade 2x, we have been working on using a story arc to create an exciting narrative. We have been looking at setting the scene, the characters and introducing a problem. Here are Oli and Noahās opening sentences.
By Noah Tupai
Many moons ago, there were 7 teenagers. Their names were Dan and Jaxon and Albie and Noah and Oli and Seb and Rhys. Their town had been in drought for weeks. Now they were desperate! All of the villagers were shouting at the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister was stressed that night.
By Oli Phillip
The dark spruce trees loomed over the dark forest floor. Mournful cries echoed all around.
A dead fox lay in the snow. The description of the forest, the WORLD, was not loud, not silent. The lifeless plains stretched across the endless world.
It puzzled the five wolf cubs. They did not know the endless place that was in front of them. The humidity of the forest did not burn their fur.
State Chess Semis:
A really tough dayās chess, just outside of Werribee.
Children with over 4.5 automatically qualify for the State Chess Finals. The six qualifiers did incredibly well, but I canāt help but give huge credit to Will Sargeant for a really outstanding result for the grade 4 student. He spends almost every lunchtime practising, and plays at home in the evening, but I didnāt see this happening so soon. Really well done, Will.
Ben, Mason and Mars show some of the strength coming through, whilst the āoldā guns did well again.
Nine of the kids ended on 4, and we are anxiously awaiting the possibility of more invitations to the Finals, to āmake upā numbers. The results also demonstrate how solid the group is across the school, and the impact of practice outside of school. We won the trophy for the day, by a point in the final round!
On a separate point, four girls were invited to the Girlsā State Finals the previous Friday. Willow, Esther, Mia and Milly went as a team. They came a tremendous fourth overall in state.
We also have six kids playing in the Northern Star State Finals, and five playing in the Victoria Chess Finals, both coming up.
