The Viking View The NJH PTO Newsletter - Week of April 17

north junior high pto works to:

Support Students | Appreciate Educators | Create Community | Sponsor Fun

welcome to the 4th Quarter!

It's hard to believe we're in the last quarter of the school year! There are a lot of exciting things happening at North and we're thankful for the support this community consistently provides to students and teachers. Let's finish strong!

PTO BOARD OPENINGS

Most of the PTO Board is staying on for next year: Paige Gustavsen as President, Ellen Campfield-Nelson and Julie Ouchley as Vice Presidents, Nola Walker and Kim Love as Treasurers, Alicia Walker as Assistant Secretary, Becca Hayes and Rosa Urrutia as Hospitality Committee, and Susan Cornett as Volunteer Coordinator.

But some have 9th graders that are moving on to Boise High (we'll miss you Katie Walther!) and there are a few openings as well as new positions that need to be filled. See a job that looks interesting but worried about over-committing? Recruit a friend to do it with you! We encourage Board and committee positions to be shared through co-chairs or assistant positions to help ensure smooth officer succession and continuity, as well as to allow sustainable workloads for volunteers. To sign up, email us at northjhPTO@gmail.com or reach out to Ellen or Julie with any questions.

PTO Board and Committee Openings for 2023-24

There are roles to fit many different levels of commitment. We would love to get a mix of 7th, 8th and 9th grade families to help. Come join us!

AVID SPRING DANCE

AVID is sponsoring a Spring Fling Disco Dance in the North Cafeteria on Friday, April 28, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Thanks to your generous support of The Big Give, PTO was able to support AVID by sponsoring some of the decorations. Click here to sign up to help by chaperoning and bringing snacks. (Your kids would secretly love for you to chaperone!)

ICE CREAM SUMMER SEND-OFF SOCIAL

As a way to say thank you for your generous support of The Big Give (think of it as The Big Give Back!), PTO is serving ice cream to North students and their families on Friday, May 19. Stay tuned for details. Want to help with the event? Send us an email and let us know.

April Staff Appreciation lunch

Thank you for supporting the April staff appreciation lunch! The chili, toppings, cornbread, salad, and dessert you brought made the baked potato bar a big success. Stay tuned for ways to help with the May lunch.

Leadership is selling fairy grams next week during lunch

  • Library -We are in the final week of the Battle of the Books season, and it has been an incredible year! Our battles began in January with eleven amazing teams, and after weeks of lunchtime match-ups, we are down to our final two: JUST QUIT NOW and BOB-ASAURUS REX . These two teams will be representing North at the Region 3 Tournament this Saturday, which will be held at East Junior High. At the tournament they will join 34 other teams to do battle, showing off their knowledge about the 16 books from this year's reading list, and fighting for the IBOB Regional Championship. If a North team proceeds to the championship round on Saturday, it will be the first time for a Boise School District team since 2021, and the first time for North since 2018. Dan Gemeinhart, author of The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise, will be presenting at the tournament. More information about IBOB can be found at https://idahobattleofthebooks.org.
BOB-ASAURUS REX is a hybrid team consisting of members of the two teams who tied for second, and includes seventh graders Elsa Fesenmyer, Ethan Lowe, and Kellan McClaskey, and eighth graders Katie Sawyer and Mona Schwartz.
JUST QUIT NOW consists of 8th graders Ardin Anderson, Kane Cochrane, Grady Noble, and Teddy Winkler; they've added Lucy Robison (formerly of the team Nerds of the Lost Cities) in as their fifth member for the tournament.
