Chick Webb, other known as William Henry Webb was born February, 10, 1905. Fresh out the womb young chick had no idea he would be in the pro ranks of drumming at the age of 11 years old.
His spouse was Martha Loretta Ferguson. Chicks parents were William H. Webb, and Marie Johnson Webb.
He had TB in his spine which made appear hunchback. As a child his doctor recamended him to play an instrument to relieve some of the tention brought on by his illness.
Then soon after the doctor proscribed music for young chick, he got a paper route and saved up for his first drum set.
chick took lessons from jazz drummer Tommy "Thomas" Benford, who helped him become the best at swing style (a type of drumming).
Buddy rich one of the best drummers in the world if not the best said " Webb is the daddy of them all". Chick must have accomplished so much to be seen like that in the eyes of the best.
Chick Webb could not read music music note but instead he remembered the set he had to play.
One of chick webbs great accomplishments was becoming the house band at the savoy ball room. Bands dreamed of playing there and chick band was the main band to play there (the house band).
Unfortunately his health declined in 1938. He started getting fatigue from is shows and would pass out after them. Sadly he soon died in 1939 from spinal TB. All tho we lost a great musician the legend of chick Webb shall remain!
